FADE TO BLACK

INT. NEW YORK/FBI HEAD QUARTER - MORNING

Robert walks through the corridor, a man passes and nods to him.

Then a woman passes him.

FBI WOMAN

Hi Bob, are you Okay?

Robert shrugs his shoulder, passes her. He walks down. He comes

to the door at the end of the corridor on his left. He knocks on

the door.

BRETT (O.S.)

Comeon in.

Robert enters the room. BRETT a man in his early sixties, short,

bald, with belly and extra weight looks out the window. He turns

when Robert enters.

BRETT

How're you been Bob? My congratulations.

4

Robert comes closer and shakes hands with Brett.

ROBERT

Thank you Brett, I'm touched by what

you've done.

BRETT

It's nothing son.

ROBERT

What happened? I got your e-mail.

BRETT

Something is about to happened. Let's

sit dawn.

They sit down at the table, Brett in front of the table Robert

on the table side next to Brett.

BRETT (CONT'D)

Everybody's alerted. We got some inside

information that our men plan to attack

very soon. We couldn't get the target

nor the methods of the attack.

ROBERT

What are we gonna do?

BRETT

That's why I called you.

ROBERT

Are you giving me a blind chance?

BRETT

You got it all wrong. I'm giving all the

power to you. You could take whoever you

like and do whatever you need. From my

info it could happen in two weeks or so.

ROBERT

You wanna make me a whipping boy, don't

you?

BRETT

I love you as my own son and you know

that.

ROBERT

Sure, so you would put your own son in

that situation?

BRETT

Bob you just got the promotion what do

you want me to do?

5

ROBERT

Nicely done. You know what you are doing

man.

BRETT

Bob you get it wrong. I was talking to

you as to my son but if you don't like

it I could talk as your boss.

ROBERT

Sure, you could. You are the boss. Does

anyone have doubts? Me n-ooo.

BRETT

Anyway, I got the instructions from

there (showing on ceiling) you have been

approved to be a head of the group. I

couldn't change that.

ROBERT

Thanks Brett, you couldn't set me up

better. But if you insist. --Anyway, I

want Berta to be assigned to my team,

the rest is up to you.

BRETT

I knew you would take it from different

prospective. I don't mind Berta. But you

will need more people. You see the

situation is urgent, two weeks is a

short time, the two of you could not do

much. I would suggest to take three more

people.

ROBERT

I said the rest is up to you. In my

opinion, I would need probably one more

person and a couple of agents that could

be on call as I need them.

BRETT

Okay, I will find you another person to

help. You could take anybody that you

need, just call them. I will send you a

list.

ROBERT

Anything else?

BRETT

It doesn't seem like there is.

ROBERT

Could I go?

BRETT

6

Sure son. I will send you all I have

about the matter and the list of agents.

ROBERT

Yes, Sir.

Robert turns and goes to the door, before he opens Brett says.

BRETT

Keep me informed.

Robert does not answer, he opens the door and exits the room.

Brett stands up and gasps. He goes to the window and looks out

at the INS building across the street.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. ROBERT'S OFFICE - MORNING

Robert is sitting at his desk. Knock at the door.

ROBERT

Come on in.

BERTA STAINLY, women in her late 40's, charming, her face is

happy, enters the room. Robert stands up.

ROBERT

Berta! Come in.

Berta takes the nearest chair. She sits down and so does Robert.

BERTA

I got your instructions. You were right.

The old man did everything in his power

to set you up, he didn't like your

promotion.

ROBERT

You should have seeing how nicely he was

buttered me up!

BERTA

Whatever, I hope you are not upset about

it.

ROBERT

Not at all, anyway he was right. The

order came from (shows to ceiling) there

and... in any case, I was working on

that project long enough.

BERTA

Let's get to the point. I found very

interesting information, I just send it

to you.

7

ROBERT

Berta, I am still pissed.

BERTA

So, do you wanna take a brake?

ROBERT

No, not yet, in a while. Okey dear,

sorry, what did you find?

BERTA

There is an English company by the name

of "Rion and Co" they are producing

micro chips for video and audio

electronic devices. Also the company has

one of their branches in Pakistan.

ROBERT

You said Pakistan, I just read about it

somewhere.

BERTA

That branch is developing special chips,

which they are implanting into the mice

brains.

ROBERT

Do you mean a kind of information chip?

BERTA

No, worse. But let me explain then you

will ask your questions.

ROBERT

OKay, go ahead.

BERTA

The chip is implanted into a mouse

brain. The instructions are send by

radio waves from a special radio

frequency device. Do you remember RFID -

the Radio Frequency Identification,

which was adapted to the human body in

nineteen ninety eight?

ROBERT

So, the chip is not the fairy tale.

BERTA

Yes, I wish it would be a fairy tale....

It's a very promising future device.

ROBERT

Promising?

BERTA

8

Bob, maybe you could try to concentrate?

ROBERT

OKay, go ahead.

BERTA

That chip is more complicated than an

info chip. Those instructions are

controlling and sending in more complex

sequences. This looks kind of like sets

of assignments that are sending at once.

ROBERT

Do you believe in that crap?

Steve enters the room without knocking. Steve is the man in his

early 40's very energetic and full of life, smile does not go

off of his face he wears very expensive clothes.

BERTA

Hi Steve.

STEVE

Hi Berta, Bob. I got Brett's e-mail, he

assigned me to your group.

ROBERT

Good Steve welcome to the nut house.

STEVE

Why such a black humor?

BERTA

Steve I am sorry but I was explaining

some idea to Robert. Would you mind to

either sit and listen as I continue or I

will finish with Robert and send you

that info.

STEVE

I would prefer to have it from the

beginning. By the way Brett said that

Robert will be the boss not you Berta.

ROBERT

For your information, Berta has been my

partner for a long time. She is the boss

as well as I am.

STEVE

Thank you for the clarification, I want

to be your partner too, if you do not

mind. I never work as a subordinate.

Either I'm a partner or a boss. What

would you prefer Bob?

9

ROBERT

Thanks for your clarification, neither

one is good for me.

BERTA

Oh, guys stop it. Stop this nonsense. We

should be a team and work as partners.

ROBERT

But, Berta....

STEVE

Sorry,... I apologize. The old man got

on my nerves today. I didn't finish the

job that I was working on for three

month and he said that it's very urgent

to help you. Sorry, again I did not mean

to impose.

BERTA

That's Okay Steve. Seems like I am the

only one today who was not pissed off by

the old man.

STEVE

Okay guys I'm leaving you for now, send

me all the info that you have and I'll

try to work on that. Brett said that the

matter is urgent and we have about two

weeks. Did I get it right?

ROBERT

You got it correct. I'm sorry too Steve,

I will see you in an the afternoon.

Steve nods and exits the room.

BERTA

Where was I Bob?

ROBERT

You were explaining how the box commands

the mice. I am still thinking that this

is crap.

BERTA

Why?

ROBERT

If I remember correctly, with the RFID

device, according to the FDA,

implantation of the chip itself poses

some health concerns. A patient could

react adversely to the chip itself by

infection or allergy, or it could be

implanted improperly.

10

BERTA

You're right.

ROBERT

Even more it could dislodge itself and

move to a different part of the body

than where it was first implanted. The

implant could also fail on its own at

any time, and the information contained

in it could be lost. (raise his voice)

HOW could they possibly implant it into

the mouse's brain?

BERTA

Honestly, I don't know exactly. The chip

is covered by a layer of living tissue

so, the brain's soft tissue doesn't

antagonize it.

ROBERT

Bert, I can't believe it. Are you sure

that the source of your information is

not bogus sources?

BERTA

Bob, now you're trying to get on my

nerves. I though our long relations can

give you some confidence in my

professional abilities.

ROBERT

I'm kidding darling, no doubts about

your professionalism.

BERTA

Absolutely , to be continue. (laugh) The

chip is converting a set of commands to

simple actions, and the mouse executes

these instructions. The other thing, ...

the instructions might be more

complicate to the extent that the mouse

performs some very specific work....

(gasp) Do you understand what that

means?

ROBERT

I am not stupid, sure I got the sense of

the purpose of such a device.

BERTA

So, the article that I discovered is

very short, but I also did the

classified search and found that a

similar chip was invented by Russian

scientists back in seventy eight.

However, the Russians were working on

11

human beings.

ROBERT

No wonder, the Russians could do it.

BERTA

The experiments they did were very

promising, but something went wrong. The

project was top secret and the

information just became available a year

ago. All of the scientists died.

Therefor, the project was closed. I

think we have to check that more

carefully.

ROBERT

Okay, very interesting. You have to

explore these crazy ideas. I feel that

we are on the right path. Let me take a

brake. Where are you going for lunch?

Berta stands up.

BERTA

I'll be in my room, I'll have a lunch

later. Let me work on the issue in

depth. See you. Don't take Brett very

seriously, you know him long enough not

to be as upset as you are.

ROBERT

You're right Bert I'll try to calm down.

I'll do the research after lunch about

that Rion Company. See you.

Berta goes to the door. She opens the door then turns back to

Robert.

BERTA

I'll try to talk to my body in Moscow,

maybe he could help me with the Russian

experiment... Later.

Berta exits the room. Robert stands up and puts his jacket on.

He turns his computer off, opens the top drawer and takes his

wallet out. He closes the drawer and goes to the door.

corners Robert sits and he reads the printed papers. She glances

at him with interest and then her gaze stops on the next table -

unoccupied. She goes to the table and takes off her coat. Sits

at the table. In a short while a waitress comes over.

WAITRESS

What would you like Ma-m?

JOANNE

The turkey breast sandwich with avocado

lettuce and tomato. And a cup of tea - a

big one.

WAITRESS

Would you like any sides?

JOANNE

Yes, steamed vegetables.

The waitress leaves, and Joanne transfers her look to the

window. Joanne watches the busy street outside the window.

People are walking in both directions, crowd. Robert and Joanne

are not far from each other. Robert glances at Joanne from his

side. Suddenly, she turns her head to him and their eyes meet.

Robert quickly turns his eyes back to the papers in front of

him. He finishes his lunch and he drinks his coffee. He sips the

coffee but does not like it. He searches for something on his

table. He does not find it, then his eyes shift to the next

table, it is the table where Joanne is siting, his glance stops

on the sugar bowl. He stands up and goes to Joanne's table. She

looks out of the window.

ROBERT

I'm sorry, can I borrow the sugar bowl.

JOANNE

Sure, you could, keep it. I don't need

it.

Robert takes the sugar bowl and goes to his table. He drinks the

coffee slowly and keeps glancing from his papers at Joanne. His

look is troubled.

EXT. BROADWAY TOWARDS UPTOWN-EVENING

Joanne just left the building. She is walking from the door

towards uptown on Broadway. Joanne wears a coat and she is

carrying two bags one is big and bulky the other is a small

purse. The street is busy. Joanne enters subway station.

INT. JOANNE'S HOUSE/HALLWAY -EVENING

Joanne exits the elevator, and is walking through the hallway

13

toward her apartment. She opens her purse and is looking for the

keys, could not find it right away and her face shows trouble.

Finally, she pulls the keys from the purse. A phone ring sounds

from her apartment.

INT. JOANNE'S ROOM - EVENING

She opens the door. Phone is still ringing, she rushes to pick

up the phone receiver, before she picks it up the answering

machine begins playing the message.

JOANNE (O.S.)

Hi, you have reached Joanne Boukly's

voice mail. I'm unavailable to answer

the phone. After the beep please leave

your name and number and I would call

you back.

Joanne is checking the caller ID, which shows Steve Colaway's

phone number. She sits down on the couch with the phone in her

hand, she did not take her coat off and she still has her bags

in the hand. Her face is tired and exhausted. Steve's voice

starts to record the message. We see the phone base as he talks.

While Steve is talking, we see Joanne's apartment, living room

where there is a sofa and love-seat, TV set and the piano. The

piano's cover is open. On the top of the piano is a big vase

with dry bucket on it, and a couple of photos. We see photos:

Joanne with parents, Joanne graduating college, Joanne among

colleagues in London near Big Ben.

STEVE (O.S.)

Hi Joanne this is me Steve.... I was

wondering how you are doing. Today I've

looked at our pictures from Jamaica and

I recalled all the things... I am really

sorry, that I did not have patients when

you had a bad time....Maybe we can meet

some time for a cup of coffee or

diner..... (silence) I know that you're

listening to this message, where could

you be ... only home.

Joanne puts her bags near by on the floor. She struggles to take

off her off.

STEVE (O.S.)

Joanne I know you more than I would like

to, but you have to make a decision, I

can call again and again but you'll

always be unavailable...I still love

you... I could wait.... You are probably

crying now but do not cry just pick up

the phone.

When he says those words we see Joanne's face, she is crying

silently. Steve continues:

14

STEVE (O.S.)

Joanne I want us to be together I know

that a lot of time passed and we did not

see each other but it's only proved that

I truly loved you and still do.

...Please pick up the phone... (pause)

Joanne... I know you are listening.

(pause) OK this monologue exhausted me.

(more sharply and with inpatient and

anger) Bye, hope you are OK.

Joanne sits in the same position on her coat with the sleeves

off. Steve hangs up, the phone answering machine stops, sound of

rewinding. Joanne takes her coat off, goes out of the room.

INT. JOANNE'S HOUSE/KITCHEN - NIGHT

Joanne enters the kitchen. It is a big nice kitchen with a table

and nice lounge area. She puts the kettle on and sits to wait

till it boils. We see her face.

EXT. JAMAICA/THE BEACH SHORE - SUNNY DAY-SOME TIMES BEFORE

INT. LONDON/BIG CATERING ROOM - NIGHT (FLASH BACK)

TITLE: 3 MONTH BEFORE

Joanne enters a ballroom, private party. A lot of people in the

room. Music playing, some of the people are dancing, some are

talking in small groups. We see the audience piece by piece.

Joanne wears a nice long dress her hair arranged neatly she is

walking and some of the people turn their heads toward her

movement. She is in good mood. She does not look for anybody in

particular. She picks up the glass of white wine, and walks

down, she nods to people as she passes. The MAN-SCOTT nicely

dressed in toxido, very good looking stays with a glass of wine.

She passes him. He notices her and wants to talk to her. She

also notices him but does not pay attention. Her co-workers see

her, they wave to her calling her over. There are 3 women in the

circle they laughing and talking joyfully. Joanne walks toward

them.

JOANNE

Hi girls. How do you like the party?

Seems like a nice and joyful.

CO-WORKER 1

Yes, very nice. I personally enjoy it

very much. But thank God that after

15

tomorrow we're going home. Honestly, I

almost hate London.

CO-WORKER 2

Yes, it's been a long time, three weeks

it's too long for me I miss my kids.

CO-WORKER 1

But I am glade I came here anyway. I

called yesterday my husband. He said

that in New York they have nice Fall

weather, the leaves are changing colors.

Nice isn't it, and what do we have here?

The rain ddin't stop for a week. It gets

on my nerves more than a work. I miss

home too. But since tonight is our last

night let's have fun.

CO-WORKER 3

(with playing voice)

Oh, please, homesick women missing their

husbands, kids and house works...Are you

ready for a bit of fun?

CO-WORKER 1

Yes, I am, lets dance. Joanne, listen,

when you were walking the man over their

(turns her head in the man's direction)

He almost screwed his head. See he is

still looking at us, or at you?

Scott is watching the women. Joanne turns her head he nods

slightly.

JOANNE

Oh, don't be so silly, he is staring at

everybody with the same screwed head.

Listen,

(laughing)

maybe he is just screwed?

They are laughing, Joanne finishes her glass and a waitress who

just passes them offers them another drink. Joanna changes

glasses and turns her head to look at the man more carefully.

Their eyes meet and Joanne blushes. She turns her head back but

instantly turns it back to the man. Man nods to her and smiles.

CO-WORKER 1

You see Joanne?

JOANNE

Yes, darling you're right.

CO-WORKER 1

So go. Go, go.

16

She pushes Joanne from the back. Joanne is walking to the man,

he still smiles to her.

MAN

Hi, pretty.

JOANNE

Hi, there.

MAN

Do you mind dancing with me?

JOANNE

Not at all.

Scott takes Joanne and they go to the dance the dancing place.

JOANNE

By the way, what is your name?

MAN

Scott Dementia. I already know your

name, so, don't bother. Put that glass

down. Waitress!

Waitress comes, Joanne gives the glass to her. Joanne and Man

start dancing.

JOANNE

So, Scott are you from the States?

SCOTT

Actually, no.

JOANNE

Then where are you from?

SCOTT

Do you really want to know?

JOANNE

I'm dying to know that piece of

information.

SCOTT

You're so funny. I am living nowhere,

every day I am appearing in the world

and every night I am vanishing into thin

air. And I've been doing that for almost

three thousand years.

JOANNE

Are you that old, so I could not

possibly dance with you. You sound

seductive. And by the way, I hate when

people disappear in the morning.

17

SCOTT

You're mistaken I'm disappearing at the

night and appearing in the morning. This

will suit you perfectly, doesn't it?

JOANNE

Yes, you're right, that's sounds much

better.

SCOTT

Would you mind if we dance a little bit

faster? I like to dance fast. By the

way, you're a good dancer, I would say a

perfect one.

JOANNE

You flatter me.... But yes, we could

dance faster.

The music starts playing very fast a lot of people stop dancing

because it is too fast, they are looking in the direction of

Joanne and Scott with amazement.

Joan and Scott dancing, they are not noticing anything strange.

They are dancing very fast the music is in its peak and the

final move - Joanne is twisting in Scot's hands and he is

throwing her out to the center.

She barely keeps her balance when she tries to stop, she could

not balance her body and she falls down. Her head hits the

corner of the podium.

Music stops a lot of people screaming, Joanne's co-workers run

to her. She is unconscious.

Somebody screams "ambulance".

Co-worker 2 kneels down by Joanne side and is checking her head.

Everybody forgets about Scott.

Co-worker 3 is looking around as if she is searching for

someone.

CO-WORKER 3

Did anybody see where that MAN went?

Nobody answers, the ambulance's workers with a wheel litter rush

to Joanne.

She hands the sutures.

SURGEON

Not those... the number five...

NURSE

I don't have them here ...it's in

SURGEON

Go get them... hurry up the anesthesia

is almost gone.

Nurse rushes out of the room.

Surgeon goes to the next door. In a second he comes back with a

small bottle in which is a microchip in some liquid.

He opens the bottle, pulls the chip with scissors.

He implants it carefully to the brain.

Nurse returns.

She hands the sutures to the surgeon.

He sutures the skin.

Nurse socks the sweat from his forehead with the goose.

SURGEON

Well done, she won't safer a big scar.

NURSE

You are the best as always.

Surgeon steps out of the operation table. He takes off the

gloves, through it to the garbage.

Nurse cleans the instruments.

NURSE

Would I see you tomorrow?

19

SURGEON

I'm leaving morning. Don't worry I'll be

back in a week. Do you want me to bring

you something special?

NURSE

As you like. - I would miss you.

INT. LONDON/HOSPITAL ROOM - NEXT DAY -MORNING

Joanne is siting on the bed, a lot of flowers are around her.

Her Co-worker 2 and Co- worker 3 are standing by her bed.

CO-WORKER 2

How are you, darling? We were so

worried. You scared us to death.

JOANNE

(her voice is very weak)

I am better now. The doctor said that I

got a very cushy wound and I will be

able to fly tomorrow with you girls. I

just don't remember why I fell.

CO-WORKER 3

You were dancing and then somehow the

man just twisted you crazily and threw

you on the floor. You know what's

strange, the man vanished. After they

took you to the hospital I tried to find

him but it was hopeless.

JOANNE

It scares me but I don't remember a man

at all. They put five sutures on scalp

but I am feeling alright just a little

bit nauseous and drowsy.

CO-WORKER 3

You have to sleep, they will discharge

you tomorrow morning we will pick you up

and go to the airport. Do you need

anything?

JOANNE

No, not really. Would you be able to

pack my bags?

CO-WORKER 3

Sure, I don't promise the perfect order

as you usually have but I could guaranty

that I won't forget a thing.

CO-WORKER 2

Don't worry Joanne I'll help. Take care,

get batter, we will see you tomorrow.

20

INT. HOSPITAL/HALLWAY - MORNING (CONTINUE)

Two women are closing the door behind them, the doctor just

passes them.

CO-WORKER 3

Doctor,... can you inform us about our

friend's condition?

DOCTOR

Sure, but I must disappoint you I didn't

do the surgery. The night doctor who did

the surgery left for the day and

starting tomorrow he is on vacation. But

I'm in charge of her today. I saw the

x-rays everything is alright, I believe

that there is nothing to worry about.

The wound is deep but not thick. She

will get batter. I would just suggest,

when she gets back to the States to

follow up with her regular doctor.

CO-WORKER 2

Doctor, one more question. She said she

did not remember some things. Is it

possible, she might have memory loss?

DOCTOR

It is possible but it should return in a

while. I do not think she will have the

black holes or other problems.

FADE TO BLACK

INT. JOANNE'S APARTMENT/KITCHEN - NIGHT (PRESENT)

Joanne sits at the table with a pensive look.

The kettle whistles, Joanne shakes her head.

She turns off the gas and pours the water into the cup. The

phone rings.

She goes to the living room.

She returns with the phone in her hand.

JOANNE

Hi,

(pause)

Sure Marcy I won't forget. I'll call you

right back.

With the cup in her hand she goes to the living room.

INT. NEW YORK/FBI BUILDING/ROBERT'S OFFICE - LATE AFTERNOON

21

Robert is sitting in front of the computer and has a lot of

papers on his desk.

The door opens rapidly and Berta almost jumps into the office

and abruptly takes the chair and sits.

BERTA

I'm scared. The info I found is

gripping.

ROBERT

How come?

Robert starts clean his desk and takes the papers away.

BERTA

It's scary.

ROBERT

Stop thrilling me and give me the

sophisticated answer, I must have the

exhaustive information.

BERTA

Listen here. I checked the Russian

sources. It is very interesting they

were working on that project from

nineteen seventy eight till o five.

ROBERT

Wow, that long?

BERTA

So, there were only three scientists

involved, all of them are dead.

ROBERT

They're lucky.

BERTA

Ya funny... You're cynical. I called a

person whose information I could trust.

He said that only the notes and films

have been left along with the overview

of the experimental set up. This was top

secret and it's very hard to get a hold

of those notes.

ROBERT

How top?

BERTA

You're in a good mood today I see, but

I'll spoiled it.

ROBERT

22

Hold on

(pause)

Did you ask your informer to send that

info to us.

BERTA

As I said, it's a top secret, so, he

can't do it.

ROBERT

Okay, go ahead

BERTA

The most thrilling thing is that that

one of the scientist was a professor in

Moscow University and his student was a

fellow from Pakistan, independently,

researched and invented the same idea of

micro chip.

ROBERT

Really? I'm just imagining everybody

with a chip in their brain walking on

the streets.

BERTA

You need help.

ROBERT

With all these chip ideas I will

definitely need some

(pause)

Go ahead

BERTA

The informer told me that the

information is not certain. He thinks

the professor took that student to the

lab, showed him the work and the

experimental part.

ROBERT

I don't understand how that was possibly

happen. I believe you are familiar with

Soviet Union secret system. It was

impossible to do such things in that

environment.

BERTA

I know what you mean. I asked him the

same question, he said that it was

eighty five, and the KGB was not that

strict at the time.

ROBERT

That's bullshit.

23

BERTA

Maybe. But he said that it's highly

possible that the fellow was either

involved in the experiment or just read

the notes.

ROBERT

What exactly? Read or involved? It's a

big difference.

BERTA

The informer was not sure about that.

ROBERT

Anything else?

BERTA

Yes, I also checked the Pakistani

sources and guess what?

ROBERT

You're found that mysterious student.

BERTA

As always, you are right.

ROBERT

Who is he? Any information on where he

is now?

BERTA

Yes and no. He exists and he had

published his research about the micro

chip back in eighty nine. After that he

disappeared.

ROBERT

Did you contact anyone from Pakistan.

BERTA

What do you think, how many years I have

been working here?

ROBERT

Berta please, do you mind leaving your

pretentious questions for another time.

I know you are a professional otherwise

you wouldn't be here. The matter is

really urgent and we do not have time to

play.

BERTA

OKay OKay. Let's get to the point. You

have to be nice to me. ...I called our

source and they said that the man exists

and alive. They could not locate him

24

since nineteen eighty nine. They have

some proof of his existence's.

ROBERT

What proofs? Was he sending them a

birthday cards?

BERTA

I'm not quite sure about birthday cards,

they don't wanna share. I think we need

to ask Brett to help us to release that

information, through his channels.

The door opens sharply and Steve enters the room. Berta and

Robert are frightened.

ROBERT

You scared me to death.

STEVE

It's really urgent otherwise I would

call or send you an e-mail.

ROBERT

No problem at all, you are always

welcome to come without ceremonies.

Steve grabs the chair and sits down.

STEVE

OKay, I am shocked. It is really

impossible to believe. I searched

Russian sources, it's astonishing they

really made it - the micro chip -

instructions can be send through the

device to the human brain. You would not

believed it but the distance is huge it

is on average from three hundred miles

up to a thousand.

ROBERT

Good very good.

Berta wants to say something, she is upset. Robert noticed the

change in her mood but does not know what to say.

BERTA

Yes, we need to communicate faster and

text the tips. I think it is essential

that we will have the complete picture

in a second, as soon as it will be

available to each of us.

ROBERT

I agree. I need to share with you, since

you are both here, my research. I

25

checked the Rion Co. profile, the

findings are not as thrilling as yours.

But there are key facts that would

probably be useful later. Let's say I

have a hunch about it.

STEVE

I thought that hunches are not

appropriate in our work.

ROBERT

You are wrong but let me finish.

Basically, they implanted the micro chip

to the mouse brain. The commands are

sent through a special device like a

small box, which operates by radio

waves.

STEVE

What do you mean by radio waves? As I'm

familiar with physics, that's really

impossible to do. In order to the

regular radio waves to be received,... I

mean, ...the receiver device must be

very powerful and to translation the

radio waves back twice the power is

needed. In addition, the technology of

the microchip is unable to produce such

power and receive those waves.

ROBERT

I am not familiar with physics as you

are but we have what we have.

BERTA

Guys, leave your arguments for an other

time.

ROBERT

Okay. As the profile explained the

sending device uses very low frequency.

It needs almost no power. Human ear

cannot hear it. Even some radars are

unable to pick up the frequencies.

STEVE

The radar? It's amazing I knew Russians

had some of the secret weapons.

ROBERT

Would you mind holding your tongue until

I finish?

STEVE

Sorry, Bob.

26

ROBERT

The buttons on the sending box are

designed in this manner: go right, go

strait and go back and go left. The mice

are put into a labyrinth the chip is

activated and then the instructions are

sent.

STEVE

You want to say that the box basically

works like a remote control.

ROBERT

Yes, but it can also program a set of

commands to achieve a specific goal. For

example: go to the end of the labyrinth

by the shortest way.

Robert stops talking. He takes the two sheets from the paper

pile and hands them to Berta and Steve.

ROBERT

Here, you can see the picture of the box

and the technical description. Even

more, after the session, usually for

five to seven minutes, they deactivate

the chip. Interestingly, after the

session the mice did not resume their

regular activities. They exhibit

exhaustion and tiredness for another

thirty minutes after which they return

to their normal activities . More over,

mice who had been experimented for

several times, died. Several times, in

their interpretation, from five to ten.

BERTA

What about the sequences of the sessions

and the causes of death?

ROBERT

The causes of the deaths varies from

different type of heart decease to

stroke. Some of them died after five

experiments some had been taking ten

times, average is 7 experiments. The

sequence is not specified. But I agree

with you Berta that it is important. I

will try to find that out.

STEVE

I don't understand what it gives us.

ROBERT

It shows, that the same parallel could

be drawn to the human being.

27

(referring to Berta)

Berta, I need you to go to Moscow and

check the notes and find what kind of

biases they experienced during the

experiments. Please do the research. Pay

attention to everything from the

insignificant to the most harmful

consequences. I will check if you can go

today.

BERTA

Can you arrange my lodging.

ROBERT

Call your buddy and see if he could help

you with that. If not then I will refer

that to Brett. But it would probably be

no sooner than tomorrow and I think we

do not have much time.

BERTA

OKay. Let me call him.

She touches her forehead with her hand.

BERTA (CONT'D)

Oh, shit it is ten pm in Moscow and I

only have his work number. Oh, shit.

She is very disappointed and she is repeating the words 'Oh

shit' to herself several times.

ROBERT

OKay, let's leave it like that till

tomorrow. Call him first thing in the

morning , don't waist time and take the

first possible flight to Moscow. You do

not need to check with me or Brett on

this matter. When you get there call me

no matter day or night. We will lose 2

days already because of the time

difference.

STEVE

I have a better idea. Let Berta go today

on the first available flight.

(referring to Robert)

You or I will call him tomorrow and

describe the situation and urgency, so

that he can meet her at the airport.

BERTA

It's a good idea Steven. I will get the

first available flight today. Thank you.

STEVE

28

You are welcome.

ROBERT

Guys thank you. Very nice, let's get

back to work. Berta send me all the

contact info on e-mail. Steve, you

continue working on what you have been

doing previously. Plus, check from your

sources what you could find about Rion

Co. Also Berta, give him the Pakistani's

name that we need to find.

(referring to Steve)

She will tell you her research results

and you will see what can be done.

BERTA

One more things guys. I accidentally

went through some of the information and

found that for the past two month there

were two false bombings in a sequence of

three weeks. I do not know why but as

Robert said I have a hunch that those

accidents relate to us. Today is the end

of another three weeks, therefore, I

think something will happened.

ROBERT

I need that previous accidents' report.

Steve you are on your own till tomorrow

afternoon. I will check the

circumstances of those accidents

tomorrow morning and ... That is

probably it.

INT. JOANNE'S HOUSE/LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Joanne puts the receiver on the base and goes to the computer.

She turns it on.

While it downloads she goes to the bedroom.

When she returns in pajamas, the download is complete, she sips

the tea. The web page browser opens on yahoo web page. Computer

screen is in front. She types something on the browser page and

other web site pops up. It is a dating web site, a lot of men

photos appear on it.

Joanne scrolls passively, then she goes to her account page to

check out the incoming messages.

She is smiling while she is reading.

She goes to pick up her phone again. She dials the number.

Waiting till someone picks up.

JOANNE

29

Marcy, I have to tell you something.

MARCY (O.S.)

Go ahead, I'm full of ears.

JOANNE

OKay, I told you last time about the man

from the single web site.

MARCY (O.S.)

Sure you did. Are you talking about the

man that you had been e-mailing for the

past week? I thought he was kind of

crazy, but go ahead.
