I. Beginning
A. June 1990
1. Private investigator “Chance” Vaughn ambushed and shot
2. After shooting the hired guns he crawls to car
3. He wishes that he heeded his secretary’s words: It’s a set-up
4. Collapses to side onto prom pictures
5. Passenger door opens
6. Shot rings out
B. June 1982
1. Teenager awakes from dream
2. Can still feel pain and burning
3. Something’s not right
4. Feels another presence/mind/soul inside
C. June 5, 1982 Morning
1. He shakes off odd feeling
2. Puts on glasses, running outfit, sneakers
3. On return from run, sister talks with him
4. Stephanie notices something different
5. Micah “talks” with the presence
a. Wants to know who/what it is
b. Wants to know if it will do him harm
c. Satisfied that it will not harm the teenager
D. June 5, 1982 Afternoon
1. Oldest sister Ewa takes Micah to get tux, flowers
2. At lunch, he confesses something’s not right
3. She tells him explain
4. He explains, she calms his fears
a. She understands
b. She knows someone that could explain it
5. Asked if he wrote down dream and feelings
6. When they return home Micah sits and writes
a. Consciousness tells him of how it all began
b. Consciousness spells out the players’ names
c. Micah remembers the pain and adds it to the story
7. Nervous due to the impending prom

II. Middle
A. June 5, 1982 Evening
1. Micah dresses and has pictures taken
a. By mother
b. By sisters
c. By neighbors
2. Micah drives to Antoinette’s house
a. Consciousness still not telling who/what it is
b. He feels things are different with the presence
c. Has a feeling things will change further with each moment
3. Micah and Antoinette
a. Pictures at her house
b. He meets friends
c. Travel to prom in limo
d. Antoinette cuddles close, tells him she’s so happy
4. Prom
a. Introduced to more friends
b. Introduced to her old boyfriend, who wants to start something
c. Disagreement on dance floor
1. Old boyfriend and his friend try to get Micah to fight
2. Antoinette gets between them
3. She’s pushed by old boyfriend’s friend
4. Micah – with consciousness’ help – tells him that
i. Antoinette no longer cares for him
ii. The relationship is over
iii. It’s best that he leave before he’s escorted out
iv. Once he’s escorted, police will take him
v. Then his life will be ruined
d. Micah and Antoinette return to dancing
1. She’s impressed by his calmness
2. She’s impressed that his speech worked
3. She presses tighter into his body
5. Last Dance
a. She tells him he’s made her happy
b. His Inner Person, fading, screams to him
c. “I love you,” Micah says
d. Antoinette cries, whispers she’s wanted this
e. She tells him the same
6. Exit
a. Antoinette is floating
b. She’s loved since she first spoke to him
c. She wanted to hear him say those words
d. She can’t stop smiling
7. Back at her home
a. They talk alone in her room
b. She wants to know if they’ll be together once they go to separate colleges
c. He reassures her it will work (Inner Person agrees)
B. June 6, 1982 Morning
1. Breakfast with her family
a. Mr. De Fiore wants to know Micah’s college plans
b. Antoinette’s shocked when he tells her he loves her, in front of her parents
c. She readies for work
d. He readies to take her
2. Presence says things have changed
a. Reassures Micah things are better
b. Won’t tell him what’s better
c. Won’t tell him what’s not better
3. Drive to work
a. Antoinette holds his hand
b. She tells him she loves him
c. She walks to his side of car, kisses him
d. Supervisor witnesses
e. Jealousy and outrage because he can’t have her
C. June 6, 1982 Afternoon
1. Typing the short story, adding to it
2. Van Rossum and painting come up too often
3. Finishes first draft and walks away
4. Ewa and Stephanie read it
D. Monday June 7, 1982 Afternoon
1. Journalism/creative writing teacher handed short story
2. She sees Van Rossum and painting
3. After school, they talk
4. She tells Micah she will research Van Rossum
5. Consciousness tells Micah to allow it
6. She calls about the man Van Rossum
7. Micah meets with professor
8. Told NOT to tamper with events
9. Tells professor it’s too late: Said “I love you”
10. Ewa is happy he told Antoinette
11. Professor asks what the “Consciousness” has said about that
12. Micah states, “It’s better”, and that all
E. Friday June 11, 1982 Evening
1. Van Rossum is upset
2. Some people know the family secret
3. High school teacher and one of her students
4. Talks with associate
5. Comes up with plan to find out how much they know
F. Graduation June 23, 1982
1. Micah enters gym for last time
2. Looks for family
3. Finds that Antoinette is sitting with his family
4. Shocked
a. Feels things have changed
b. Feels change is good
5. Micah doesn’t see the men scattered around there watching him
G. Graduation party
1. Micah and Antoinette go off together
2. Talk more, mostly about his college plans
3. She’s scared that they’ll not be together after the summer
4. He reassures her they will – Consciousness is silent about it
5. Van Rossum’s men watch them
H. Camping Trip, July 1, 1982
1. Micah invited by her family
2. Helps set up their site quicker than they have in the past
3. Without Antoinette there, Micah goes off to beach
4. He reads and swims
5. He fails to see that he’s being followed

III. End
A. Graduation Present, July15, 1982
1. The story’s been completed and edited
2. Submitted to literary magazine
3. Awaiting word on publication
4. Micah keeps submission from Antoinette
5. Wants to surprise her
6. Presence tells him that
a. It’s a good thing
b. She’ll love it
c. Still won’t share what’s changed
d. Won’t tell Micah if the couple are together
B. August 1, 1982
1. Hired men talk with Antoinette
2. She knows nothing of Micah’s research
3. They don’t believe her
4. Attempt to take her from store
5. Supervisor and several other co-workers thwart kidnapping
6. Police arrive, take statements
7. Antoinette stays in the office, talking with the Supervisor
8. After work, supervisor and his cousin escort her out
C. Kidnapping
1. Supervisor and his cousin bring her to his apartment
2. Scared, she screams, no one can hear her
3. She can’t contact her love
4. Thrown into bedroom
5. Door locked
6. Panicked, tries to go out window
7. Barred, no escape
8. She hears door knock
9. Hears door break
10. Hears shouting
11. Bedroom door opens, supervisor runs in
12. Micah follows
13. Micah detains the supervisor as the police arrive
14. Antoinette won’t let Micah go
D. August 10, 1982
1. Micah has to meet Antoinette at mall midway between them
2. He wants to tell her about his story that’s been published
3. Hired thugs take Micah
4. Taken to Van Rossum’s office
5. He wants to know how the teenager knew about the painting
6. Inner person comes to the fore
7. Tells Van Rossum about the painting, the map it is
8. Man wants to know location of it
9. Micah and inner person refuse
10. A gun is drawn
11. Refused again
12. Thugs beat on the teen
13. Again, nothing
14. Angry, Van Rossum pulls the trigger
15. A shot rings out
16. Micah feels no pain
17. Sees that he’s in a dream world
18. Stands with older self
19. Older self smiles, tells him that it will be fine
20. Older self disappears, as does dream world
21. More shots are heard
22. The thugs drop
23. Van Rossum is shaking
24. Alexander Black smiles as the police rush in
25. Micah thanks Black, thanks him for watching the office
E. November 23, 1982
1. Antoinette De Fiore has Calculus test
2. Across booth table at café are spread her book and notes
3. On her third cup of coffee
4. Her roommate walks in, joins her
5. Puts a magazine down
6. Tells Antoinette, page 33
7. Antoinette why that page
8. Roommate refuses to tell
9. Waitress comes over and gives Antoinette bouquet of flowers
10. She stops looking at magazine, asks where they came from
11. Waitress, “He told me,” points over shoulder
12. Antoinette can see no one special, smells the flowers
13. Roommate tells her to look at the page: Page 33
14. Sees byline, “Micah Vaughn”
15. She looks up, over roommate’s shoulder again
16. He approaches
17. She jumps up
18. “Happy birthday beautiful,” Micah says as she wraps her arms around him
