It is a really interesting experiment, a simple one at that.
Let us do a simple experiment. For any experiment to look effective you need to see immediate results. Immediate results present themselves with extreme clarity on extreme ends of the same action, whereas in normal scenario we generally do not operate on the extremes.

I have used spouse as an example. You can do it with anyone. If you are doing it with a real person, check if you can handle the repercussions.

Let us build two extreme scenarios. Take for example your spouse.

In the first scenario, just call him and shout at him for no reason(for ensuring extremity). You should add as much hateful content as possible while shouting. Be your worst. What will be his response? Watch it. Note it. How do you feel while doing this? Watch it. Note it.

In the alternate scenario, call him and shower him with a lot of affection for no reason. You should pour as much love as possible while showing your affection. Be your best. What will be his response? Watch it. Note it. How do you feel while doing this? Watch it. Note it.

Now you have a lot of stuff to analyze. Use your notes and if you feel comfortable share your conclusions.

(This is an experiment illustrated with full analysis  in my book “Self Centered Meditation” available from Amazon)
