Thoughts on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial |
Memorial A candle yields its final spark unable to hold back the dark. Only a pale image remains reflected in the onyx planes that stand in darkness unafraid. The names inscribed upon the wall, pale echoes of duty’s last call, wait patiently. They understand that each gentle touch of hand justifies the high price paid. Comrades-in-arms and families; each carry precious memories that, for a moment, across years, pay tribute. Eyes fill up with tears of sadness and hearts fill with pride. Countless times this scene’s played out leaving those who’ve paid no doubt that, though the cost of freedom’s dear, their legacy of honor’s clear; their valor cannot be denied. A candle yields its final spark unable to hold back the dark yet faintly echoes can be heard that softly recite oft spoke words: Dear Lord we ask rest for these souls and peace for those who mourn the lost. Bless those who serve our country well no matter what the final cost. Notes: An entry for July round of "HONORING OUR VETERANS " Thank you for taking time to read my words. I would appreciate it if you took a moment and left a comment. Your reaction, impressions, criticisms, - yes, even praise - are all equally welcome. |
