What society does to innocence...
I see you standing there,
In the glittering façade of societal perfection,
Nothing left but a withering husk of flawlessness.
Mindless,
Staring through the walls of my indecency.
Ignoring the truths before you
Searching for the deepest secrets to corrupt for your enjoyment,
Traipsing through the pages of an unopened novel.
Never knowing that each smile has a shadow,
Every peal of laughter hides half-forgotten misery.

An age old sun,
Watching always,
Trapped in a shrinking bubble of my own imagining,
Created by the meaningless words you’ve used to define me.

But I don’t blame you,
In truth I forgive you,
You’re only human after all.

One day, the sun will set,
The walls will crumble,
The bubble will pop.
My smiles will not fade,
The laughter will grow stronger.
You’ll keep staring,
Searching for what’s not yours.

Life will go on.

But only I’ll know the truth I hide:
I have won my losing battle.
