POETIC EXPRESSION OF STRUGGLE BUT REMEBERING ONE WHO GIVES GRACE. CONTEST ENTRY |
My Humble Cry 27 lines It’s easy to laugh, everyone got jokes… Walking down the marbled floors, nodding to everyone I know- Last night it required two ‘eight balls’ followed by a chaser of Hennessey to dull the worries, emptiness, loneliness from friendless frenzy. “What good is it to profit the whole world and lose his soul, said the man with the five hundred dollar suit and croc leather shoes. Walk in the light, as He, fellowship with one another, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin!” What does he know about these words- undercover caught smoking that bud. Walking out seeing momma on the pew, her head drops low, praying profusely. I feel like the scales instead of meat on a red snapper, but I’m full of confusion. Schizoid you might say; down with the hustle and bustle of the night mood, but proper and patient with the people in suits and high heeled shoes. A decision has to be made… I nod and give love to my brother awaiting my word standing on the corner- thirsting for me to be gangster blood, but in the real world a misnomer. Walking inside I pass the worn Bible lying on mama’s bed near the place she lay her head toward the night sky. My steps halt as I see a shiny envelope with letterhead of a college she begged months ago for me to apply- Literally in bold red raised letters it pronounced acceptance and funding assist with all my needs and supplies. Dropping to the knees, my heart feel unease, requests of forgiveness arise. I had given up faith- focused wavered, desires of flesh taking over. Many nights I asked, nothing was the response- no signs, heart growing colder. A sound in the throat evoke a choked of monotone murmurs saying- “Forgive me Jesus, I walked away from you. I do believe you heard my desires. Please wipe my sins away, comfort my mother, and dry her tired eyes. I know you are the one, Jesus Christ to come, and still today alive. Please hear my heart today and with grace accept my humble cry.” |
