Dick
Ouch
Itch
Oh the burn
Followed by pain
Quickly
Leading to shame
What is this
Is often asked
No idea forthcoming
No relief to be had
What did I do
To deserve it
How can this be true
How is it
That knowing you hurts
More than
It certainly should
At a great distance
I increasingly stand
Mesmerized by all that I see
Struggling not to flee
Instead
Taking bits and pieces in
Trying to understand
Evaluating everything seen
Dissecting all that I know
Continually unsure do I grow
For many of years friend
The relationship of who we are
Has changed again
And then again
Keeping up with you
Is my sin
Impossible to give in
I don’t know how to relent
I don’t know how to quit
Then
Just as easy as a sunny day
At any random zoo
I knew
I understood
Without a doubt
With absolute clarity
I was able to classify
Your resemblance to a species
The rudimentary rodentary
Nature of your ways
Gave it all away
You my friend
Are unlike me
Are unlike everyone else
Because you my friend are
An Annihilist porcupine
Those proverbial quills
Stuck in your skin
Are growing outward in
Physically doing nothing
To those on the outside looking in
But the pain they inflict
Deep within your own prison
Is more than any of us can bear
We suffer because of you
We deal with the tragedy
That you have become
Because we bleed just as you do
We suffer the same grievous wounds
Understanding offers us no chance
We are all part of what you are
Because knowing you has brought
Us all uncomfortably closer
To knowing who we really are…
