Tweezers

A word
became
much more
than denotation.
Connotation
branched off
in new directions.
Cards signed with ‘stick’
or perhaps
a bit of a twig
glued to the page.
“Will you stick with me?”
he cajoled.
The ring
he stuck on my finger
reads ‘stick’ inside.

I gave him a
pair of tweezers
because even in the forest
of good intentions,
I knew there
would
be
splintertimes.
