It's basically the story of the goddess of love and war and Tammaz her mortal lover.
I gave you the Garnet star
To wear around your neck
And laid gold at your feet
I gave you the sun and even-light
When but our lips should meet

You gave me the Garnet star
To wear around my neck
And that shining gift should keep
When in my darkest throes
Death, my sister, weep

And why then should you leave?
To wander through dying lands
To mortal hands that would hurt you,
When treasured here you are
And each dawn, loved anew

I am not the coveted worth
That loving men move
Nor am I damsel lioness
To bend my knee to living stone
And be a tender adulteress

Would breathing rock speak?
And tell you he loves you,
Or offer you a frozen heart
For you, dear Goddess, to grant
Favours, form and gifts impart

I killed that mountain
When, proud, he stood before me
I killed that gentle earth
I walked through flames and gates
And begged, naked, for rebirth

I gave you the sun and even-light
And returned the Garnet star
But I cannot live with you
To be treasured here
And each dawn loved anew
