Shine

i watched you as you sat
and stared at the clouds
of grey rolling in overhead.
your green eyes were glowing
from the red that surrounded
them.

i wanted to reach out and touch
you, just to let you know that
i’m here. but i knew if i did,
your exterior would crumble
like the building you had
your sights set on.

just like the rain drops that
squeezed their way into the
tiny cracks of the roof, drizzling
down into the worn out
eyes of the past, i loved you
just the same. it was then
that i realized
