A poem about living life on my own terms and proving that I am not as ignorant as thought.

I don’t know
Unsure
Within clarity’s glare
I wanna go anywhere
But here
I still have a choice
A right to decide
This life is mine
Certainly
Without doubt
Beyond any question
It has been shaped by you
At least for a time
Forced in many terrible ways
What a monument of shame
Built by your hands
Bled by mine
No longer can that be the case
Your miseducation of me
Has failed
I am not ignorant
If anything
I am acutely attune
I know all too well
Life, what a brutal hell
Living, only a beginning
The end, everything
Not the end of breath
But the end of what we
Are willing to accept
I will become my own being
I will decide how to breathe
Each beat of my precious heart
Will be contingent upon choice
No longer a conditioned response
Once I am without question free
I will scream
Hear me world of lessons
Such a miseducation
Has been forsaken
Never again
Will I be a lemming
I am smarter than allowed
I know what I must do
And all of the other ways
I must fight to refuse
Paramount is any idea
That comes from the source
Of my own mind and not
All of the terrible lessons enshrined
I will be free, whatever it will mean
Your miseducation of me
Has not left me as stupid as dreamed
Smarter still, I will always persist
This life and the right to live it
Will be a decision that I alone make
Such a decision will be based off
An increasing lack of ignorance…
