This is a poem that I wrote for my daughter on her fifteenth birthday |
You’ve Only Just Begun You’ve only just begun to realize that the world is a far bigger place than you could ever imagine You’ve only just begun to realize that sometimes other people matter more than yourself You’ve only just begun to realize that God truly has a plan for you in this life You’ve only just begun to realize that someday some wonderful person will come along and make your life complete You’ve only just begun to realize that freedom is an earned privilege, and not a God given right You’ve only just begun to realize that the most important things in life cannot be seen or touched; they have to be felt deep inside, and must be nourished with loving care You’ve only just begun to realize that my love for you is as endless as the waves of the ocean, and as timeless as the rising and setting sun You’ve only just begun to realize that wherever you may be, or whatever you may do, I am there with you… in your heart I’ve only just begun to realize that, just as I watched you learn to run and dance and sing, I will soon be watching you as you learn to leap and spread your wings. I’ve only just begun to realize that that will be both the happiest and saddest day of my life |
