Time holds all the cards ...
Gettin' Older

I'm thankful that my mind is,
for the most part, still intact
although time holds all the cards
and I think the deck is stacked.

I feel nostalgia for the days
when life seemed less complex.
I look around the world today
and often feel perplexed.

Not that change is bad, mind you,
I'm sure that things are fine.
It's just that it all moves so fast,
it out paces my mind.

Like all the childhood toys I had
that I found so unique.
Now I see them advertised
and listed as antiques!

I resisted using "plastic"
I like real money, please,
until I tried to pay in cash
and they wanted two ID's.

I miss the music of my youth
I still "groove" to disco tracks...
I'm saving my records and tapes.
I'm hoping they'll come back!

Time has not been kind to me.
I use my tattoos as a gauge.
My fantasies have not grown with time
they've only spread with age.

And so I'm trapped in-between
and I'm filled with sorrow...
one foot in the past, one in today
with no feet left for tomorrow!

Still, I'm thankful that my mind is,
for the most part, still – still –
Hmmm, What was I saying?
