a story about bullies that change
I had a pretty good school but me and my friends were bullies. We beat kids up just because we could. We hurt them because they were weak. Thinking we were cool never get caught was good but we didn’t all have the same feelings about it. I always felt bad about it after. I still did it knowing I made people cry. We were terrible kids for it.
I felt so bad for him. Me and my friends would wait for him everyday just to beat him up. I started feeling bad for him because eventually he just stopped coming to school. He never told anyone that it happened he just hid it from everyone. One day I decided to go visit him, unfortunately I had no Idea where he lived. I’d ask one of his friends I thought but none of them knew. When my friends found out they made fun of me. The pretty much started doing to me what we did to him. I started to forget about him. Now that I knew what it was like I had to talk to him. I decided I’d start by asking the school. Fortunately they knew where his house was. I decided I’d walk there. I went right after school on Friday, but no one was home so I tried the next day. Then the next day, then the next day, finally someone was home.
It was his mom, she didn’t know why I was there so I explained. Being a mother she understood what I was trying to do. So she offered me a pop while we waited in silence. When he finally showed up he was astonished.
He said “why are you here” in a a very angry and confused tone.
I said “Mikey I’m sorry for everything I’ve been trying for a few weeks to find you, I finally did and I really need your help.”.
He looked different like he had been working out and yet he looked like he was just laying around all the time. He didn’t trust me so he constantly glanced at me then said “let’s go to my room and talk”. Once we got in his room he punched me in the gut, I fell to the ground. He stood there and stood at me like he expected me to fight back but I just laid there for a little and got up.
He then said “you really are sorry”.
We then seriously talked for about two hours when I saw the time. “I’m late for dinner!” I said standing up from his bed. I said bye and that’s when he asked “wanna hang tomorrow?” I said sure and rushed home.
That night I thought about how I’d make it up to him. After school he was there waiting for me. I realized that my old “friends” weren’t coming close to either of us. It was Like something had happened scaring them from us. While we were walking to his house I asked him about it. Though he didn’t answer he just chuckled. That bothered me a little so I decided I’d ask them.
The next day in school I asked one of them he said Mikey had beaten them all up. Impossible I thought he wouldn’t do that, he’s too shy and quiet. I asked all of them, they said the same thing. Which this bothered me. So I asked him again.
He said, “Don’t worry they it’s not your problem anymore.”
“They told me,” I said.
“What!” he exclaimed.
“Yeah, but why did you?”
“They did it to me every day! Did you forget that?”
“No I didn’t but since you did that you’re not any better than them”
He didn’t say anything and we walked to our own houses. I thought that tomorrow was Saturday so I had the idea to go to their houses and talk to them. I’d apologize for what Mikey did. I had too. The next day I went to one of there houses and said my apologies for mikey the thing is they said he already said sorry. I was so surprised I even asked if they were threatened to say that. They all swore he said sorry. I had to talk to him so a ran to his house. He was there thankfully. He said he had had a busy morning. So I asked what he did.
“what did you do this morning, and good job”
“What do you mean”
“I know you apologized to them all, good job” I said smiling
“Oh, thanks. Uhm well anyway I applied for school again.”
“What! That’s great! When do you start?”
“Monday”
We then went and got him some school supplies. I told him he should tell his mom. Later that night at dinner, he told her. She started crying, but she was smiling. Him and I looked at each other and smiled. We went to school that Monday and saw a kid getting bullied he walked over and stopped it and took the kid to the office. I then realized the real reason he went back to school. He wasn’t there to better his education but to help those who are bullied. He asked me to help with his plan. I agreed and I suggested we get our past bullies and help change them.
They all agreed. Within a year of doing this Mikey suggested asking the principle if we could be hall monitors. He didn’t like it at first but then he started getting asked for hall monitors by the students. Within about a week he said yes to our idea. For the next two years we did this. We helped a lot of kids and eventually bullying stopped almost completely. The last year of school was bad for us because we all started failing. The principle made us stop being hall monitors. The thing is there was hardly any bullying because they knew we’d help the ones bullied. We didn’t need to have the position anymore we had stopped bullying just from earlier years. The thing is we all had bad grades, so we got held back another year. Over the summer we started a organization to end bullying in schools. We asked schools about it, they didn’t like the idea. Only one school accepted us so we went to work. They funded us in hiring security guards and buying cameras. We were able to get a video camera in every hall way making it so if something happened the guards would know. We had this going for half of the school year giving maintenance to the systems and talking to the bullied students. At this point word had spread to many schools around the area getting the same thing we did for the first by the end of the year we had gotten the most of the schools in the county. After three years we started a business out of it. We had a system for it. We did the same thing in every school.
Eventually we became pretty known; people had us install similar systems in their homes. Though some left we still had six people and we started hiring. We had eventually got all around the area. We did had some problems here and there but over all we helped. It was a much better thing than what we did five years ago. Now we are all adults and just do what we can.
