A young witch named Sage Blacke meets a mysterious man named Blaise Delecroix.
I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the clock; 9:45 p.m. I yawned as I stood up from my bed and slipped on my knee length boots over my tight jeans and walked over to the window. Pulling back the curtains I opened up the window and breathed in the fresh crisp spring air. Crickets chirped happily as the crescent moon rose into the starry night sky. I clapped my hands twice making the lights in my bedroom turn off. The only light that illuminated the room was the moonlight. Its moonbeams slowly crept up my chest as it rose. Suddenly a small flash of light flickered; the moonbeam crept over my wolfs-eye necklace. I smiled gently as I rub my fingers over the pale white stone. I debated in my head to whether or not to take a moonlit walk around my yard and look up at the stairs as I lay in the grass. Smoothing out the ruffles of my long sleeve, black, V-neck shirt I sighed happily. When all of a sudden the wind suddenly roared and whipped back the curtains. A sudden fiery feeling rose within me as my breath was taken away. Within in a minute my breath returned to me as the wind died down to ultimate silence. What was that? A sudden bang made me jump a foot away from the window. I stood completely still and held my breath. A few seconds of silence went by when suddenly 3 more bangs sounded again. Spinning around I ran out of my room and down the stairs to the door. The banging continued, but I made no movement or sound in response.

“Sage?!” a woman’s voice sounded from outside the door.

“Oh thank goodness.” I unlocked the top bolt and the bottom lock and flung the door open. An alarmed and upset Jillian ran through, shut, and locked the door behind her.

“Jillian, what in the world? Are you alright?” Jillian turned her head and looked at me angrily.

“Are you seriously asking me this right now?! Do I look alright to you?!” she snapped. I looked at her. She had beads of sweat running down her face. Turning my head to the side I listened closely; her heart was beating wildly.

“Jill, if you don’t calm down, your heart just might burst.” With a wave of both of my hands candles that were about the house suddenly flickered with the life of fire. I quickly took her hand and led her upstairs to the bathroom. Turning on the light, I looked and made the doors to the closet of the bathroom open and levitated a washcloth over to me. Jillian sat down on the edge of the tub with her head and face dipped down shaking violently. Turning the water on, I soaked the washcloth with cool water and rinsed it out lightly.

“Alright, tell me what happened.” I asked softly as I placed the cloth on the back of her heated neck.

“I don’t even know where to begin… only that… he’s here again.” She bit her bottom lip and started crying softly. I took her hands into mine and looked at them closely. There were small scratches on the palm and back of her hands. I leaned down to look at her face and saw more scratches. Small beads of blood dripped down her face. Intertwining, her sweat and blood, made the color red turn into a pinkish red. Looking at her clothes, I saw that they were ripped and drenched with sweat. I picked off some thorns and prickles and flicked them to the floor. It seems she had ran through a field of some prickle bushes or something. And the way her heart beat, it sounded like she was running for her life.

“Who is here again? Who’s he?” I ask her gently. Jillian started to rock herself back and forth gently. She crossed her arms over her chest and began to mutter to herself gently.

“Jill, Jill look at me.” I lifted up her face and tried to look into her scared brown eyes.

“Jillian talk to me, what happened?” I said with a little more tension. She continued to mutter and stared back at the floor. I pulled some leaves and twigs out of her black hair and sighed gently. Closing my eyes and placing my hands on her shoulders, I began to mutter in Latin. A small spark of warmth rose within me and began to pulse throughout my body. The split wounds on her body began to heal. The small trails of blood laced with sweat and tears that streamed down her face slowly reversed and streamed upwards back into her body. When all of her wounds had been healed, the warmth that flowed within me suddenly ceased. I opened up my eyes and looked into Jillian’s eyes. She stared back at me; her eyes no longer had the look of fear. She looked finally calm and composed.

“Now,” I whispered softly. “Are you ready to tell me what happened?” She shook her head gently up and down and took a small breath. A gave her a small smile in returned and led her to my bed. She sat down slowly and took the cloth off of her neck. I watched as she twisted the cloth tightly allowing the water to seep out and run all over her fingers and hands.

“His name is Blaise. And he’s asked for my help and power.” I looked at Jillian closely.

“And you won’t help him because…?”

“You don’t understand Sage, Blaise is wanting so much power from me… the help that he needs from me will end up killing me.”

“Does this Blaise know this?” I questioned.

“He knows…” Jillian trailed off and looked at the floor.

“And…?” she looked up at me with a pale face.

“He doesn't care.”

I headed toward the window, “Does this Blaise have a last name?”

“Delacroix. Blaise Delacroix.” Jillian stood up and began to pace back and forth in front of my king sized canopy bed.

“Maybe I can help you help him.” I replied shutting the window.

“Oh no Sage!” She suddenly spun me around and gripped my shoulders darkly. Her beautiful dark brown skin suddenly darkened as the candles light dimmed. Her eyes were no longer a puppy brown, but were cold and black.

“You should never go near Blaise. Once you meet him there is no going back. Your life will be in danger…” She bit her bottom lip gently as the brown coloring surrounded her irises again. “Just like mine is.”

“Jill,” I took her hands gently. “You are my best friend. Why haven’t you come to me?! Why didn’t you tell me?! It sounds like you’re in desperate need of help. You know I can help you!” I cried.

“I am not putting your life in jeopardy. I know you’re my best friend, you mean everything…” Jillian suddenly trailed off as she looked through my window.

“What’s wrong?” I inquired.

Jillian suddenly let out a small gasp.

“He’s here.”

“He’s what?!”

“Can you not feel that Sage?!” Jillian snapped angrily. I turned my head and looked through the window and took a deep breath. Jillian was right there was something odd. Like the electricity, the life forced had left the atmosphere. The hair on my arms stood up and the warmth from my body left me.

“Jill, this Blaise, he isn’t human is he?” I whispered gently as I looked back at her. Jillian shook her head no and looked back at the window.

“He’s at the door… he’s here for me…” She looked at me with tears in her eyes. The darkness that surrounded her before disappeared, and now an aura of fear surrounded her. I quickly grabbed her hand and flung her into my bedroom closet as she started to cry hysterically.

“Stay here and be quiet. Don’t make a sound or snob or sniffle, do you hear me? You will be fine. Just stay here.” I shut the door and waved my hand in front of me. The door to the closet suddenly disappeared and there in front of me was just a plain wall. A sudden knock came from the door downstairs. I clapped my hands twice as the lights went on and the candles went out. I went down the stairs and stood in front of the door silently listening. Another knock sounded. I took as deep breath as I unlocked both locks again. Opening the door to just let my head peer out, my breath escaped from me yet again. This figure that stood in front of me was just breath taking. He had beautiful black hair with tints of red in it. Tall, with broad shoulders, and he was muscular. His face was handsome and his eyes were a deep blue.

“Hello,” his voice was deep and sounded sweet. I quickly glanced at his whole entire figure quickly. He wore a nice suit, all black, with a nice blood red tie.

“Hi,” I replied with small smile. “Can I help you?”

The man looked closely at me with a smirk.

“I am looking for a friend of yours, Jillian, I believe.” He looked around the porch and about the outside of the house. “Is she here?” he suddenly looked back at me.

“No.” I replied shortly. We both stared at each other for the next minute, until I broke the silence.

“Who are you, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Blaise, Blaise Delacroix. And you are…?” He took a step toward the door and me.

“I think you already know who I am if you know Jillian.” I replied darkly.

Blaise didn't respond as quickly as I thought he would. The air suddenly became very thick and heavy. The crickets had stopped chirping and it seemed the night life had died; total silence stood between us. A very low growl suddenly rose from the outside. I looked at Blaise and saw his eyes turn into a sharp icy blue. He suddenly closed his eyes and cleared his throat.

“I believe you are-”

“What do you want with Jillian?” I interrupted. Blaise again didn’t reply very quickly, but suddenly looked back at me. His eyes were not an icy blue any more, but returned to the normal deep blue.

“Did you not hear me the first time Mr. Delacroix?”

“Oh I heard you Ms. Sage Blacke.” I suddenly inhaled sharply and looked at him darkly.

“I want my witch, Jillian. I know she’s in this house.” He continued.

“You are not welcomed in this house!” A sudden surge of electricity and fire raged through my body as I looked at him with concentration and sent him flying backwards into the air and off of the porch. I quickly shut the door and locked it... I exhaled and shivered. Did I just panic? I never panic!

“What the hell?” I whispered softly to myself. A bang hit the door and sent me flying onto my back.

“Ms. Sage, I’m sorry, but if you don't open this door, I am more than willing to come in and get Jillian myself.”  It was Blaise again, but he sounded oddly polite.

“She’s not here!” I yelled. Suddenly small whispers flooded my mind and the room started to spin lightly.

“She’s lying…” I heard a woman’s voice sound outside the door. “I can help you…” A sudden pain suddenly shocked my brain and brought coldness to my body. The whispers turned into screams of horror that pounded my mind. I cried out in agony and curled myself into a ball.

“NO!” I heard Blaise shout. “Do not harm her!” The pain slowly subsided, but I didn't have the strength to get up. I laid there on the floor panting and sweating.

“I promised Jillian I wouldn’t let harm come to Ms. Sage and I do not break my promises Silvia.”

Silvia? Who was Silvia? I heard the locks unlock and the door swing open. I tried to bring myself to my knees, but failed. I did somehow manage to lean up and look at the doorway, but I still felt like there was a heavy source on top of me. There stood Blaise looking at me with a brunette standing beside him in a tight black coat. Blaise tried to take a step forward into the house, but couldn't. It had to be Jillian putting up a protection block around the entrance ways of the house. He looked like a mime as he slid his hands up and down the blocked entrance way . Sighing, he looked at me and said, “Ms. Sage please, Jillian is in my future plans, I really need her. Really none of this concerns you. So if you could please tell her to uplift the protection spell…”

“Her life concerns me,” I interrupted. He just looked at me silently. “She is my best friend and if anyone who doesn’t care about her life and her safety is a threat to me and must be dealt with.”

“Let me finish her Blaise, she’s only an obstacle, in which I can easily take care of.” The brunette eyed me with a dark evil expression. I’m assuming she was the one Blaise called Silvia.

“I am a man of my word.” He replied to her shortly.

“The ritual is in three months, we must get Jillian prepared. We’re wasting time as we speak!” Silvia cried angrily.

“You say the ritual is in three months,” I coughed gently as the both of them looked at me.

“It sounds like you need a witch, which explains why you need Jillian.” Neither of them replied.

I looked at the floor quickly and began to contemplate. With a sigh I finally realized what I had to do.

“Let’s make a deal.” I whispered.

“Blaise don’t-“But Blaise raised his hand to silence her.

“I’m listening.” He replied.

“You need a witch, yes?” I asked trying to stand up.

“A young one to be exact; a young one that has only used her powers for a year a two; a sapling really.” I grunted softly as I tried to stand but felt a weird vibe that suddenly brought me back down. The confined spell.

“Are you serious?” I asked looking at the brunette. She in return gave me a smirk. I chuckled softly and relaxed my body. That spark of electricity began to spread within me yet again. Groaning softly I slowly stood up. Whatever kind of magic this woman had, it was strong, and powerful. But I used every fiber of my being to stand, even though when I got to my feet I felt so deeply exhausted as the electricity faded from me. Blaise looked at me with bewilderment while Silvia looked mighty peeved.

“You’re a witch…” he replied with astonishment.

“A young one; a sapling.” I mimicked

“You’re the one who threw me off of the porch, not Jillian...” He continued.

He looked closely at me. I looked into his eyes as he looked into mine. Deep down I’ll admit his eyes were gorgeous and was the first thing I noticed about him. Around the iris was a dark grey coloring. It looked like he had been through a lot of pain or depression, a hint of sadness or regret. I stepped closer and seem to have been memorized.

“You’re willing to take Jillian’s place, aren’t you? That’s the deal you’re trying to make isn’t it?” Silvia snapped at me making me lose my concentration. Blaise looked to the floor quickly, but I dipped my head down a little making him catch my gaze. We connected yet again.

“Yes, I’m willing to trade places. Take me instead of Jillian; I’m a lot stronger than she is.” Blaise looked at Silvia; Silvia glanced at Blaise then back at me.

“How long have you used your powers?” She questioned

“I’ve know that I’ve had powers for a year. I read spell books and I own various grimories, but I didn’t start to actually use my powers until like a year and a half later.” Silvia started to laugh.

“Let me guess!” she gasped through a laugh. “You hardly use your powers, right? Think it’s wrong? Or weird?”

“It can kill people.” I replied to her shortly. Blaise looked at me as he lifted his head in the moonlight while Silvia stopped laughing altogether. I looked back at Blaise.

“Do we have a deal or not?” He went back to looking at me closely. I had enough of this.

“Look, no matter how much you stare at me I’m not going to change into a frog or run for my life or anything. I’m not afraid.”

“He’s trying to read you and your life dear. It’s a personal thing that he does with everyone.” Silvia said with a sigh.

I walked to the doorway and looked up at Blaise who straightened himself up.

“If we have a deal you can try to read me as much as you want, but if we don’t then be prepared to be knocked off of my porch once again, including you.” I shot a look at Silvia.

“So feisty,” Silvia chuckled.

Blaise looked at Silvia, “Can we use her instead of Jillian?” Silvia looked at me up and down a few times then looked back at him with another sigh.

“Yes, we can.”

“Then we have deal.” Blaise looked at me with a dark smile. “Don’t even bother packing, I will get you everything you need or want. For what I use to have planned for Jillian, I now have planned for you, among a few other things.” His icy blue eyes lit up with life.

“Just uplift this protection charm and come with me.” I instantly hesitated. Just walk right out of my house? With none of my processions or belongings? Was I being crazy? I had just literally met the guy! No. I finally realized. I’m doing this for my best friend; I’m trying to protect her life. She was like family to me, my sister. And with us being witches we knew that the mythological stories of vampires, zombies, and werewolves were probably also true, but we’ve never came in contact with them. Well, I haven’t but it seemed that Jillian had. I suddenly remember my last question that I asked Jillian. I looked back into Blaise eyes.

“You’re not human, are you?’ The smile suddenly faded and a dark expression crept over his face.

“Where have you heard this?” He growled lowly.

“That’s not important right now. And it’s just a simple yes or no question. Just answer it.”

“If you don’t come out of this house, I won’t hold Silvia back.” He threatened.

“What happened to ‘I promised Jillian I wouldn’t let harm come to Ms. Sage, I’m a man of my word” and ‘I don’t break my promises?’ Besides, I think I deserved to know who I really am working for.” I folded my arms across my chest and looked at him with triumph.

Blaise’s eyes flashed at me as his dark smile appeared yet again on his face.

“Hmm, since you put it that way. No, I’m not human, but that’s the only answer you’re getting. Now please, come.” I tried glancing quickly upstairs, but Blaise caught it.

“So Jillian is here…” he chuckled. I looked at him quickly.

“Just put on my shoes and come with you? No needing to grab my bag or anything?” I questioned.

“No, and if you need anything personal from this house my men would be more than happy to get it for you, but for now, you just need to come with me and be in my possession.” I stared at the floor for a few seconds then sighed.

“Jill! Put the charm down!” I yelled. A second later a voice whispered into my mind, it was Jillian’s. “It’s down.”

“Try again,” I took a step back. Blaise stuck his hand through the middle of the doorway and stepped across the threshold. He smiled as he straightened his tie. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” I replied.

“But I am sorry for this,” he whispered softly and gently. I looked at him with alarm, but before I could act he suddenly lunged forward toward me and everything went black.
