A short poem about fate and doing all that can be done to escape one that is not my own.

-Faceless Lies-

Motionless pictures in my head
Promises never to be kept
Decisions clearly overstepped
Mistakes made on my behalf
Faceless lies that I alone must live with
Weights to be dragged around
Burdens upon my very soul
I don’t know if I will ever be free
Any level of peace would be far better
Than the hell of such an existence
Those who spoke, shattering all truth
Have all long since gone away
Their fate, sealed at a point before mine
Before they left, before their death
They imprisoned me to a fate
That I am sure was never meant to be
They told the lies that brought me here
They bent the truth to fit the narrative
Of our twisted relationship
They wanted to be quite sure
That any and all connections to me
Were wiped cleaned from the memory
Of those who knew that I was one of them
I was a mistake in their mistaken eyes
I was not meant to be and so it seems
They had every intention from the very beginning
To remove me from the folios of creation
For many years, a lifetime it all seems
Their plan worked, their faceless lies held true
No one questioned them, most of all me
I was too young, too naïve to understand
It was not until they were gone
Not until the images of all that was done
Began to creep back into my head
That I began to discover the dark truth
Consequences of all that they chose
Dammed by belief, troubled by my reality
I am sure that my life was meant to be more
Certainly fate can be shifted, changed
And maybe even in my case somehow replaced
I can survive just as I always have
But as good as I can bear to make it
My deepest, impenetrable fear is that
In the end what they wished for me
Will be the only thing that is absolute
The only thing that further lies
Upon a mountain of truth
That I can never truly undo…
