Fanfiction from the Legend of Korra.
"Korra...I love Asami," Mako sighed.
Korra's eyes widened as her vision began to blur. She couldn't face this, not here, not now, not ever. And so she ran.
She ran through Republic City, barely aware of where she was going. Her eyes were still brimming with tears but she wouldn't let them fall-no she wouldn't embarrass herself anymore than she already had. Why. Why am I not good enough. Not good enough for Republic City, for Tenzin, for Mako, she thought. Korra couldn't stand it anymore. Mako had been playing with her emotions ever since their first kiss, admitting that he was confused, yes, but she thought that she saw something in his eyes when he looked at her, as they laughed at one of Bolin's stupid jokes, or when they fought together against the Equalists. She had thought that something was love and now she realized just how much of a fool she had been.
The blur of her vision began to turn distinctly green and white, without the usual browns or shiny silver from the gleaming steel that was a trademark of the city. Distantly, Korra realized she had entered the forest where Naga found her after being kidnapped by Tarlok, but she didn't care or feel any fear for her safety. What did it matter? What did any of it matter? I could disappear in here forever and no one would miss me. They would be relieved. Yes, relieved to be rid of the biggest disappointment for an avatar in the history of the world.
Her time in Republic City had made her very accustomed to disappointment, both as the recipient and the one doing the disappointing. No wonder she had such trouble connecting with the spiritual side of being an Avatar, hell, her past lives were probably in a continuous council, deciding how the spirits had chosen someone so wrong for the job. She didn't blame them; she was beginning to think they had chosen wrong as well. She wasn't meant for this; she couldn't stand to see the hope rise in the citizen's eyes when she gave some speech she didn't mean or quell when she failed to capture Amon time and time again. She was just so tired of being the Avatar. She was just tired of it all.
