Clan Wars: Chapter 9

We arrived in Mercer Park and walked up to the hatch. Six, the mexican devil he is, picked the lock with ease. "Grasias

hombre" I said, as I heard the lock click open. "Denada" he replied. We made our way down a ladder into total darkness. I

felt forward for something and caught Six's shoulder by accident. "Is this you coming out of the closet or something?" he

said with a serious tone. I was the only one on earth that could of realized Six was joking and grinned, replying "This is

me coming down the ladder." He was silent for a moment and replied, "That doesn't make me feel any more comfortable Jake."

"Well too bad boy." I replied in my best creepy adult accent. Six found the light switch and flipped it on, reveiling a

dome shaped

room with a bed, a laptop, and another door. "Check out the computer." I said, and made my way towards the door to

investigate. I opened the door, thanking god it wasn't locked as well, and simply came face-to-face with a lion. That's

right, a full grown lion, with a chain around his neck, and attached to the wall. "WHAT THE!!!" I slammed the door shut and

got a ridiculing look from Six. I couldn't even speak! What was going on! "Lion! Theres a lion!" Six didn't seem to notice

what I was saying. "You taking those pills again pendeho?" He said, laughing. I smiled in fake amusement and opened the

door completely wide and I stepped aside, giving Six a full view of the lion, and the lion

a full view of Six. "Woah!" he said and fell back on his rear end. I nodded in satisfaction and closed the door. Six was

utterely stricken with shock, as was I when I first saw the big cat. I felt we were even now. "Thats a lion!" He said,

shock very present in his voice. "Thats what I just said!" I yelled. We both were completely lost. "What do we do?" he

said. "Look under the bed" I said, and Six did so, standing up with a large bag of cat food. "Are you kidding me?" I said

"Throw it in." Six nodded and when I opened the door, he swung the food in. The lion never moved from his relaxed, prone

position. I shook my head, "Okay... wow. Anyway... lets get down to business. Check the computer." Six sat back down on the

bed and opened up

the laptop. He started to scroll through options, and hack into all kinds of diferent accounts, leading us to the computers

home e-mail adress. "Right here" Six said, pointing to a line on the screen. He's meeting a contact named Michael Kain in

Las Cruces, New Mexico." I nodded, "Then we are headed for Las Cruces. Take the laptop, check the bed and... say goodbye to

the lion."

Two days, 1000 miles, and 3 1/2 bodies later we had cornered Mr. Shady without him even knowing it. In New Mexico. We had

driven cross country to our destination in Las Cruces.

Before I had left, I called into base and told Cherokee where we were going. She then relayed it to Sergeant Bower and he

gave the operation the go ahead. We had arranged that Six's family would stay at my apartment until we could find them a

new home. Their old one was obviously not secret or safe. I was definitely nervous about two girls staying in my home, but

I didn't really know why. I couldn't think of anything that would be embarrassing that they might find in my house, but

still, I felt awkward. I guess I felt that way because my home wasn't exactly meant to hold girls for extended periods of

time. It didn't really have decoration, appliances, or furiture. I kept my house in a state so I could disapear in a day,

and leave no trace I was

ever there. I pushed the thoughts out of my head and pulled into a hotel parking lot. Getting out of the car, the vaccum in

my head was filled with other concerns. I looked over the hood at Six and asked "Do you think that Lion is okay?" He gave

me a look that said 'your an idiot' and replied "You can't be serious."

"What? Come on its just a lion. Even it doesn't deserve to STARVE to death. It didn't even attack us."

Mike shook his head and started walking away from the jeep, saying "Tu es loco bandito." I grinned, looking

up at the hotel name 'Luxury Inn' and shrugged, then followed him. We checked into room number 235 and threw our backpacks

onto our beds.

Six quickly headed to the bathroom and made inhuman sounds once the door was shut and locked. I was holding down

hysterical laughs and took out my notes that I had taken from the Mr. Shady's e-mails. I leaned against the wall by the

bathroom door and yelled "Alright asshole, so lets go over this one more time. Tomorrow, Mr. Shady is meeting Kain at this

Italian resteraunt 'Paulies'. Good so far?" I heard the toilet buckle and Six yelling incoherantly. This time I couldn't

supress

my laughter. "Maybe you shouldn't-..." I stopped to let out a long stream of uncontrollable laughs. "Maybe next time you

shouldn't eat so much cheese, you lactose intollerant son of a-" Six cut me off with some kind of yelling and cursing,

probably damning me to hell. "Right, right. So I'm going to shadow Shady, and your going to tail Kain when he leaves. If

there is any security detail, we are to radio each other, and Cherokee and let them know." I felt satisfied we were both

equally aware of the operational details and left Six to his battle. I took out my phone and was suprised to find two

texts. One was from Angelica, and the other was from a random number. I checked out the random one first and found out it

was Don. It read 'Hey kid,

Ashley got me into this virtual letter writing thing on my telephone. Hope you are doing alright. lol. Ashley told me to

put that. What does it mean?' I chuckled to myself. 'Oh boy. Don texting. ' Then I viewed Angelicas message, which read

'Hey Jake, this is Angelica. Take care of Six and yourself. -Angelica' I was genuinely happy that Angelica had texted me,

and was eager to reply.

I started to text back but then stopped when I started to think about her. I admired her tan skin and shiny black curly

hair in my mind. I found myself smiling and

at ease with the world. I wanted to curl up with her and fall asleep, forgetting all my problems. Me and Angelica had grown

up like seperated siblings, and we treated each other as such, but as for romantic love there had never been much evidence.

We were both adults now, and I wasn't sure what she felt. I lifted the cell phone back up to my face and replied 'Will do

Angie, I'll take care of him. And I'll also make sure he gets his beauty sleep. I know how you Nexus get when you don't get

enough sleep.' I wrote, only half-joking. I looked over it, then sent it, satisfied. Just then, there was a knock on the

door. I instantly reached for my .45 in my holster. "Who is it?" I asked. "It's a friend from the bar." came a reply,

slightly lighter

than I expected. 'Mr. Shady, its him.' I reviewed my situation. Six was in the bathroom, unarmed and indisposed. I was

lightly armed, with two back up clips. I also had several peices of furinture between me and the door, which put me in a

decent defensive position. I croched behind a wooden chair and aimed my pistol at the door. "Come in!" I yelled and after a

few seconds the door opened and standing in it was Ashley. The one I had saved when I was a boy and the one that had nursed

me back to health in the back of Don's bar. She was back, and I knew there was no turning her away. "Ashley, what are you

doing here?" I said in amazement, standing up. She looked weary, probably due to the fact that she entered the room in a

staring contest with a

.45 caliber pistol. "Aluster called Don, because he heard about you. Then he asked where you were. Don told him you were on

this operation, and so Aluster asked Don to check up on you. Don couldn't leave the resteraunt, so he sent me." I looked at

her, and nodded slowly. 'How did Don know about this Op? What the-... Ahhg, whatever. I'll stop trying to figure out how

the old man knows about everything.'I reholstered my weapon and crossed my arms and shook my head. She looked at me with am

amused look and put her hands on her hips.

"What?" she said.

"I don't need care packages or check ups. Regardless of what Aluster thinks, I'm all grown up." I said with an iron tone.

She smiled back at me, raising her eye brows. "Are you calling me a care package?"

I smiled back and shook my head. "Not quite. By the way, did you drive here?"

She nodded and fumlbed with her keys. I didn't know what events would follow this, seeing as she had 'checked up' on me.

Was she going to stay? I didn't know, and it seemed awkward to ask right now, so I did the one thing any civil person does,

I invited her to sit down.

"Thank you." she said with with a nod, and started walking towards the couch. She started to lower herself to sit down,

when a guy of about my age appeared in the doorway. He had short red hair and was wearing a flannel shirt, and jeans. Then

he pulled out a Colt 9mm R0991 submachine and leveled it at me. 'Crap!' Ashley saw it and simply disapeard in mid-air. I

felt a ripple of magic pulse through the air, and I knew she had used a vanishing spell. I simply dropped to the floor,

bullets instantly cracking and whizzing above me. I took out my .45 but it fumbled out and tumbled a few feet away. "Oh

no.." I said with doom in my voice. Bullets followed me as I fell, and started to tear into the couch I had fell behind. In

the lulls of gunfire, I started to hear yelling coming from the bathroom. 'Six?' I thought. Just then, Six burst through

the door, dual weilding MP5k submachine guns and had his pants around his ankles as she shuffled into an assault. I saw

this, peaking around the couch, and just stared in amazement. 'What. The. Hell Mike?' I thought to myself.
