People who are in their hometown and did not go to college explores a slice of life |
Easternhill is what people would call an affluent town. The town is known for there great k-12 schools. Their downtown ,especially the coffee shop Bitches Brew; everyone from middle school kids all the way to their parents go and hang out there. Also the kids like to party and smoke a lot of weed. They have no real reason except that they are young and bored. In this town resides a few individuals that are from the ages of 18 to 21 who rather never went to college or went, partied too much and had to come home. Easternhills does not have much for those that are not a parent and for those not in school. Jeff Taylor was one of these individuals along with his main crew he chilled with; Susan Johnson and Eric Moore. The three of them found solace with hanging out with each other. Susan is a year younger than Jeff and Eric, and neither of them were friends in high school. Them hanging out formed out of spontaneity and the fact that no one their age wants to be alone. Jeff, Susan, and Eric all go to the local community college, where they're getting there associates degree. Now there are others who are still in town, but we'll get to them another time. The first story I am going to tell happen on a Friday night in March. The weather had been going through that transitional phase in between seasons. Not knowing if it will a nice day or cold and windy. This night was particularly nice, and Jeff and his crew wanted to take advantage of it. They had been tired of going on L rides in their cars and was excited to be able to smoke outside and enjoy it. Jeff, Susan, and Eric all met at Eric's house and they rolled up two nice spliffs. It was plenty dark by the time they were ready to smoke, so they departed from Eric's house but stayed in the general area. “Hey guys” Jeff said “remember when Fridays were exciting” “You mean when there were parties to go to” Susan said. “I think the high schoolers get drunk more than we do” Eric added “Which is sad when you think about. We're closer to twenty-one then they are, and somehow they are able to get beer and liquor” “I don't know anyone around here that is over twenty-one and would buy alcohol for me” Susan said. “Yea when I turn twenty-one I'm not buying you liquor” Jeff said “What! Why?” Susan said At this point the three of them were at an intersection. Jeff was ahead so he looked both ways and began to cross. However Jeff didn't see the Mercedes that quickly pulled up to the stop sign. The car barely stopped and made a quick right hitting Jeff while he was crossing. Eric and Susan rushed to Jeff who was knocked down besides the car which had stopped. “OH MY GOD Jeff are you okay” Susan rushed over with Eric following behind. “DUUUDDEE you just got hit by a car dude!” Eric added Jeff was moving he didn't seem to be seriously injured. The driver of the car got out of the car. Jeff who was on the ground saw from his perspective saw the driver wearing ugg boots and spandex pants, with a fashionable hoodie. It appeared to Jeff that the person who hit him was a high school girl, and a typical one at that. The driver of the car got out and first looked at her front bumper then shouting to the passengers in the car. “It's okay there's no blood on it” the driver said. “Excuse me” Jeff interjected “I'm okay too” Susan remarked “I think you should go to the hospital we need to call an ambulance” The driver took note of what Susan replying “Oooo do you have to call the ambulance won't they bring the police.” “Who cares look at him” Eric added “Right well we just came from a party and we all had a little bit to drink” The driver said. Then she knelt down to Jeff. Jeff's always been a sucker for a pretty face and when the driver said in that sweet voice “Sorry my name is Darcy, here's my number if you need anything give me a call, good good, so we don't need to call anyone.” Jeff nodded and agreed and got up slowly. With Susan and Eric helping him up. Darcy got in the car and drove off. “Where's that other spliff” Jeff said Next morning Jeff woke up with a mild pain in his neck. He was angry at that Darcy girl for hitting him and he was annoyed at himself for getting hit. In the back of Jeff's mind he was also thinking how cute Darcy was, and how it was nice to get attention from a pretty girl even if she did hit him with a car. He took a hot shower hoping that it would soothe his muscles. In the shower Jeff kept thinking about yelling at Darcy, but like I said Jeff's a sucker for a pretty face. By the time the afternoon had rolled around Jeff was walking his dog and noticed that the time was 3:45, and Jeff was going to give Darcy a call and give her a piece of his mind, so he called the number she gave him. “Hello, Darcy... it's Jeff... Jeff the person you hit yesterday... in the street... well... I'm on hort street... okay see you soon” Jeff got off the phone thinking that wasn't the way he imagined it going. Sure enough as Jeff kept walking came the Mercedes Benz toward him. The car slowed down, stop and Darcy stepped out of the car wearing the same uggs she was wearing last night. Jeff was going to rip her a new one but once he saw her face somehow it just all disappeared. Jeff got in the car with Darcy. Darcy was pulling the old charm out on Jeff, and he was eating it up. Both of them, each laughing at each others jokes being intrigued at every word the other says. Darcy talked about how high school was treating and how she was excited to finally graduate and leave easternhill. Jeff talked about how it was like staying in the town after high school. In Jeff's head he was secretly glad that Darcy hit him. These days for Jeff, talking to a girl like Darcy was few and far between. They drove, talked and smoked cigarettes. When it was time for them to depart from each other Darcy dropped Jeff at his house off to have dinner. Later when Jeff told Susan and Eric what he did in the afternoon. “You did what” Susan said. “Dude she hit you with her car” Eric said “Yea but besides that” Jeff said. “Dude she's in high school” Eric responded. “I know that she's a senior” Jeff defending his choice “plus it's not like we planned on hanging out. I called her to chew her out, but when I met with her she seemed genuinely sorry for hitting me and she's not that bad of person” “Get your dick out of your head” Eric said “She's no good for you” “Oh it's not about that” replied Jeff. He thought about whether or not it was about that, but he didn't really put too much thought into it. The night was on the chilly side so they decided to ride a blunt. These rides where a blunt is smoked are taken on the local highways. How it usually goes down is they roll they're blunt rather before at one of there houses or in the car on the residential streets in their town. They then go on the highways to smoke the blunt and then they rather make a u-turn or they turn off an exit and take the scenic route through two or three of towns adjacent to Easternhill. So they did a ride, Susan was the driver. They ended back at Jeff's house to have their cigarettes. While high and now in a different state of mind Jeff thought about Darcy and where she fits into his life. He didn't think it was a problem and decided that his friends were just jealous that he made a new friend. Sunday passed and all Jeff heard of Darcy was a text saying “hope u feel better”. The week came and on Sunday Jeff decided to call Darcy. She was happy to hear from Jeff and wanted to hang out. This was on Wednesday and Jeff called her on a walk. Darcy was at one of her friends house and went to pick Jeff up. When Darcy arrived at and picked Jeff up he got in the car and to his surprise smelled liquor. “Have you been drinking” inquired Jeff. “Haven't you ever heard of wet Wednesdays” Darcy said as if it was an obvious answer. Jeff tried not to pay attention and thought “these crazy kids”, but it was hard to ignore when Darcy almost killed them twice. Jeff tried to ignore it and for it not to ruin them hanging out. When their driving Darcy ran through a stop sign and just missed a car. For Jeff it was like he was in a movie and someone was chasing them and in order to get away they had to cross the train tracks right as the train is coming so they make but the car chasing them does not. When this happen Jeff realized that this girl was no good for him and he didn't belong with a high schooler, and someone that was drinking on wednesday and going out for drives nearly killing him. “STOP THE CAR” Jeff said authoritatively. The car when to a screeching stop. “WHAT did I hit something” Darcy said. “No and I'm not waiting till you do. You a crazy chick.” Jeff said and open the door and started to walk in the opposite way the car was headed. |
