This is the start of a fantasy/adventure story
Elquin stood at the mouth of the cave looking at the forest beyond. The group he had been following had rushed out into the night and had been swallowed up by the darkness of the forest. He knew that he needed to keep a safe distance until they revealed their hideout, but with no moon in the sky it was hard to see in the blackness. His thoughts drifted back to the conversation with Lord Pyanar before setting out to find this group.

“Be careful Elquin, this group has an artifact that helps them track individuals that might be following them.”

“Not to worry m’Lord, I have just the shrouding spell to keep them from tracking me. I have used it very effectively in the past.”

Elquin brought himself back to the present and made sure that the amulet he was wearing was still glowing its faint blackish-purple hue that let him know it was keeping his spell active. He knew he need to get into the forest and track the group but he still was not sure how powerful their magic was either. He stepped from the mouth of the cave and just as he started into the lighter area between the cave and the edge of the forest, he noticed movement in the trees. He moved to the closest shadow quickly and reached into his pocket and pulled out the small piece of dragon scale he kept there. The gold scale gleamed even in the darkness as Elquin brought it to his mouth and readied the dragon’s breath spell for whatever awaited him.
