A look at procrastination.
At the last meeting we discussed success, what it means to us, and what types of fears and barriers we have to success.

After that meeting I began to do some searching in my life for areas where I could be more successful, but for one reason or another have not totally addressed those areas head on.

One of the biggest ways that I hold myself back is by procrastination. Procrastination is born out of fear and lack of confidence. And as we all agreed at the last meeting, fear is not of God.

Why do we procrastinate? There are several reasons that come to mind. My biggest problem that leads to procrastination is a lack of self-driven determination. Another reason is poor time management. Then there is a desire to avoid confrontation or stress.

Lets look at determination. When we desire something, especially women, we are determined that we will get it. We might desire a new car, a new pair of shoes, or a vacation in Maui. Nothing will keep us from it, we will work extra hours, eat beans, sell dinners, or get a 2nd job for a little while if we really want something. Now, when there is something we know we should do, exercise, taxes, clean out our car, call a family member, write a business plan, we have a hard time getting to it.

What is determination?

1) the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose.
2.) ascertainment, as after observation or investigation: determination of a ship's latitude.
3.)the information ascertained; solution.
4.)the settlement of a dispute, question, etc., as by authoritative decision.
5.) the decision or settlement arrived at or pronounced.

There are several definitions, but the one thread through out is to solve or come to a conclusion about something. To complete something, to settle it.

As I look around me right now I have several incomplete tasks going on. I sometimes start three different things; then dabble in all three back and forth.

The following statement is from the ToDo Institute:

"Give up on yourself. Begin taking action now, while being neurotic or imperfect, or a procrastinator or unhealthy or lazy or any other label by which you inaccurately describe yourself. Go ahead and be the best imperfect person you can be and get started on those things you want to accomplish before you die." -- Shoma Morita, MD

This is saying forget the excuses of why you don't start something and just do it! So you're still broke, so you're not certified, so you're still in school, yes you're taking that class to get over being a slob, or learning to speak well. Don't let the fact that you don't have it all together yet stop you from getting something done.
