The symbol of America leading the way on the battlefield. |
Forests, plains, and seas, You led us through them all. In our time of greatest need You gave us hope and heart To fight another day. War raged all around us, Such fear we did feel, But you stood tall And gave a mighty battle cry. Together we marched To the battlefield. There were enemies all around, Gun blasts and cannon fire Drove us into a trap Two choices had we, Surrender and live Or die a gruesome death. Through the darkness Came a potent cry, ‘Fight on’ you said, ‘You shall not die this day.’ Together we pushed on with all our might, And victory was ours in the night. Shouts rang out Against all odds we prevailed. As one we turn to you, A gift of thanks we had to give, But instead found you in tatters, Cries of despair filled air. We rushed to your side, And called for a medic. With a gasp she sat down And threaded her needle. Not more then a day had past When she stood and declared ‘I have done all I can.’ Years later hope is renewed, Only one more battle to fight Before all is said and done. ‘Have courage’ you said ‘We shall win the field’ you said. Together we fought With all our heart Until the sun sets And a winner was declared. Cheers rang in the air, The war was over Thanks to you, Our hope and dreams. Together as a nation We saluted you, Our great American flag. |
