A short poem about a man and the love for his dog, Pup.
My dog Pup was a man’s best friend

He would never beg or on me depend

He ran through the fields with power and speed

And never strayed when let off lead

He looked at me with big brown eyes

The pesky cats he didn’t despise

He loved everything with equal heart

And never smelt when he let loose a fart

It broke my heart when the day came

That Pup decided to race the train

Across the tracks he sped without sin

But Pup wasn’t quick enough to win

I look back on Pup with all my love

Whenever I look at the clouds above

He is still there, in ash form in an urn

Never straying just like he did learn

I know one day at the pearly gate

I’ll get through and Pup will wait

For me to call and for him to obey

And there we will share the rest of our days
