Tips and practical advice for New Year's Resolutions
Now that this is a new year people like to make resolutions. What's the expression: a new year, a new me? Lots of times we don't last with these resolutions for more than a week or two. Why? Because they are unrealistic goals.

Try setting goals that are obtainable by starting small. Work on the inner you before the outer you. The new you inside will be able to keep you motivated and better able to handle the negativity around you.

For instance that age old trap of going to the gym. You want to get in shape or lose those unwanted pounds. You start that first week in January and the gym even offers a sweet deal as incentive.  But the first sign of winter sniffles and no more gym. Snow hits the ground and again the gym is the first to go. Start going to the gym when it’s practical, in the spring, around March. That’s when you want to be out the house. You are looking for places to go. The gym. You don’t feel like such a failure for missing the last two months. If you have less than 20 lbs to lose there is still time to do so before bathing suit season. If you have more than 20 lbs to lose it wasn’t healthy to begin with to try and lose more than 2 lbs a week but whatever you lose will still be noticeable and still worth it.

While waiting for March you can start crossing off smaller items. Start going to church. You may say to yourself, God has failed me. Could it be that you failed him. If you think about any given day of your week you will see more blessings than you realize. Visit a church they just might say some things you need to hear. Not sure where to go, look around, not only are they on most corners but you are guaranteed to know at least one person that goes to church. No one is saying join today but go. Its is never too late to reach out to God.

If your married or in a relationship try some daily tips to help keep the relationship alive. When your relationship is in a happy place you tend to be happy all around. I recommend The Love Dare Book (http://lovedarestories.com/). This book gives you dares to complete each day to reinforce or enrich your relationship. Even if your relationship isn’t in trouble some say it’s best to be proactive than reactive.

If your single, think about your last few relationships, could there be a common theme as to why they didn’t work. Maybe it’s the type of person you’re picking. Think outside the box. Try a different type of guy. Look for someone sharing your hobby, stop looking at his race or type of job. Maybe he’s a bit overweight, well you wanted to join a gym for new year’s maybe he could be your spring gym buddy. Nothing says sharing a hobby better than if you both workout together. A romantic walk could be an exercise in disguise.

Work on you this New Year but keep the goals small to start. The more you check off the small items you see it becomes easier to tackle the big ones.
