Christmas poem
Here is a Christmas poem for all to enjoy. It was published last December.

The Soldiers’ Christmas
By A. Ross Greene

Hunkered down for the night,
Praying someone would end this fight.
No tree to put presents under.
Then to my surprise, my wonder,

A figure drew ever so near,
No camouflage, sleigh or reindeer
Only a red suit trimmed in white
Waving hello, what a sight!

The closer he came
I knew instantly his name.
Rubbing my eyes,
Rousing the guys.

As we stood in amazement
The whole world was silent.
No bombs, gunfire or mortars,
When he spoke we were all ears.

“I had to stop and commend all of you.
America’s so proud of what you do
      Our country, family and friends
Thank you for persevering to all ends.”

With a click of his heel,
He turned as if on a wheel,
Saluting to everyone, tears in his eyes.
We returned his salute without any disguise.

“Now, as all of you know
      I have miles to go.
      Before all of us sleep
      I’ve commitments to keep.”

Then with a nod and wink
And one little blink,
A wind began stirring,
Our visage was blurring.

Before fading from sight,
“I pray this war turns right.
      Merry Christmas, brave men.
      Good night.  God bless.  Amen.”
