A poem that I wrote when I was in high school.
You came to me
bleeding your sad story into my ears
but I wish not to listen
from the depths of hell you cry I hear you calling me
to tear me from my mind
the wind may howl
and the night cold with your touch
holding out your hand
I can not reach what is not there
I stand before you now as a man
but your whisper rings in my ears
and your image burned into my eyes
your soot blackened cape rolling in the wind
eyes deep and dark
I finally reach out and grasp your pail hand
I pull you near to my heart as our breath runs cold
but you were just a whisper in the wind
