My Wedding Ring Listography:

1) The first gold and diamond solitaire wedding ring was only marred by a chip in the diamond. It was perfect when we bought it, but when I threw it down the driveway at my husband during a fight, it did get damaged and eventually lost the diamond. The glimmer of our marriage did begin to fade early.

2) The second ring was purchased when we decided to try multilevel marketing with jewelry. Tempted by the get rich scheme, we scoffed at the value of hard work and tried to make a quick buck. It was no way to make money, and a great way to turn away all friends and family. Well, the quality of that ring was very poor and the gold band wore down to a whisper in a few years. During that time all we did was bicker with each other and our partnership became fragile.

3) The third ring was smaller than the first two, with recessed diamonds to help prevent the loss of them. It was more practical and subdued, once again reflecting the condition of our relationship. Fights weren’t worth starting any more and we each tread our own path in the same household.

4) The fourth ring, which I currently wear, was never meant to be a wedding ring. It was a Mother’s day present from my son and is platinum with sapphires and diamonds in a line across the band. It is stylish and durable, it withstands all activities with no sign of losing grip of its gems. Wearing it on my ring finger, it reminds me of all the wedding rings I have worn and worn out. After all the years of staying in the same marriage, I would have to conclude that we have a durable relationship. I have been married to the same man for these 28 years, and our marriage seems to last longer than the gold and the diamonds on the other rings I have worn. It is a gem worth holding on to.
