Dusk describes an unhealthy relationship from one partner's perspective
I was looking at the sun

And standing in the rain

Lightning bolts

Striking

Piercing and pumping

Injecting my veins with pain

I saw Love unmask death

The putrid smell of fear came through my nose

then seeped out of my mouth and stole my breath

Away

In the distance I could see...lights, flashing

My head spinning

I feel like I’m moving but I’m standing in place

desperately trying to comprehend the blunt traumas to my face

Frozen in time

Human punching bag

My mind is confused

I feel tears on my cheeks and I laugh

Perhaps the alcohol suppressed the pain and the cold

Air…

I felt nothing when he grabbed my throat

And then begin to choke

Me…I was staring

Numbly into the sun

I stared into the sun while my eyes were glazed and dripping

I stared into the sun while it burned the emotional penitentiary that held my heart

I stared into the sun while it dried all traces of rain

I stared into the sun until there was no longer blood but fire pumping through my veins

I stared into the sun until I became one with the sun

Pushed away from the sun and started to run…

FREE!

And suddenly I was flying

The ground removed itself from beneath my feet

Tripped up

Not flying but falling towards the cold, wet concrete

Brown skin…you know I love your brown skin

Especially when its covered in mud and blood

Fresh wounds dripping

As Death revealed itself through love

Sending chills across my body

My heart ached with the pain of a thousand regrets

And me…I was staring

Broken-hearted

As the sun begin to set.
