Nancy stood staring at the cameraman while adjusting her earpiece waiting for word that she was live.  Her knuckles became white as she gripped the microphone tightly in her hand but not from being nervous about being on live television, but by what was happening behind her.
“Okay, you’re on,” the cameraman said excitedly.
“I’m standing here, in Time Square, where as you can see behind me, all traffic has come to a complete stop.  There are literally hundreds of people just standing around staring up at the sky at what appears to be some kind of spaceship,” Nancy reported as the cameraman began to pan around the area until he stopped while looking up into the sky.  “This large vessel that you are seeing now, appeared less than an hour ago and similar ships have been popping up all over the world.”  She heard in her earpiece that the newsroom was going to another anchor for a moment so she dropped her arm to her side in frustration with being cut-off.
“That was good, Nancy,” the cameraman offered.
“Thanks, Joe,” Nancy responded as she grabbed her coffee.  As she began drinking from it, a loud, high pitched sound began ringing all through the area.  Nancy dropped her coffee to cover her ears just as everyone began doing the same.  The sound was excruciating.  People began dropping to their knees while their faces contorted in pain.  Within a few moments, the sound had stopped.
Joe shook his head as to clear it.  “What the Hell was that?” he asked.
Nancy, who had been bent over, stood erect and rubbed her ears.  “I don’t know, but they are coming back to us.”  With that, Joe had the camera centered on Nancy as she recollected herself rather quickly.  “We just had an odd situation happen here.  An extremely high-pitched, very loud sound just started only seconds ago.  It was very painful and as you can see behind me, people are just recovering from it,” she said as she turned to point towards the crowd behind her.  Many were still getting up on both feet while shaking their heads and rubbing their ears.
“We can only assume at this point that the source of that sound came from the ship that is hovering above …” but she stopped suddenly as the ground began to tremble beneath them all.  Everyone looked around with alarm as the ground shook as if a small earthquake was occurring.  Within seconds, manhole covers began to rise up as hundreds of little insect-type creatures began pouring out of the ground.  Nancy looked on in horror as thousands of these spider-like things began to pour out all over.  People began screaming and running in all directions to get away from these creatures as Nancy looked at the camera.  “We have to go!”
Joe dropped the camera to his side as both he and Nancy ran to get into the news van that was parked right by them.  They looked through the windows in the van to see the creatures engulfing people completely by climbing all over them.  They continued to pour out of the ground in thousands, covering the entire area and  climbing all over people until all you could see was a large, dark mass of creatures.  Joe turned the key, starting the van and placed it into drive quickly.  The van began hurdling down the street as Joe began swerving around parked cars and people.
Joe suddenly slowed as they approached the mass of people and creatures.  “Just go!  They are already dead as it is, Joe!  Go!” Nancy screamed.  Joe’s eyes were wide as he stomped on the gas pedal, causing the van to accelerate quickly into the mass of people and spider-like creatures.  The loud “thumps” against the body of the van was nauseating at they hurled through the street.  The creatures were all over now, darkening the streets.  They were climbing all over everything and everyone, completely consuming anything that had been previously untouched.
The van began swerving dangerously as the tires were no longer in contact with ground but rather the vast swarms of creatures.  Joe tried his best to maintain control but was unable to as the van swerved hard to the right, causing it to fall over to its side.  It slid across the sea of creatures before slamming into the entrance of a tall hotel.  Both Nancy and Joe collected themselves quickly from the crash as they stammered upwards towards the driver’s door.  Joe opened the door and quickly climbed up through the opening before reaching back in to help Nancy.  Pulling her up out of the van, they both looked around in terror as the creatures were swarming up towards them.  Nancy grabbed Joe’s arm and pulled him towards the other side of the van which the entrance of the hotel was.  The area was void of the creatures so they jumped down to the ground and hurried into the hotel.
Joe grabbed a couch that was against the wall and pulled it to the Hotel entrance door, blocking it as the creatures began piling up against it.  They both stared through the glass doors, watching the spider-type creatures gathering together and pressing against the glass before fleeing towards the elevator.  Nancy hit the top floor button and fell to the ground as the elevator doors shut.  She gasped for breath as she felt herself overwhelmed from what she had just gone through.
When the doors opened, both Nancy and Joe ran down the hallway until they reached an open door into one of the hotel rooms.  Running over to the large window that overlooked the city, they both stared out of it while their hearts dropped.  For as far as they could see, everything was overwhelmed with the creatures.  It wouldn’t be long until the masses of creatures would be inside the building, climbing up to where they both were.
