A monster made of iron runs of tracks of wood and steel
people look at me and smile but am I even real?
Am I but a shadow that passes through your mind?
or is it when you look at me your eyes suddenly go blind.
People bump and banter and kick a flightless bird
but when I ask the time it’s as though I can’t be heard.
Underneath the walkways of busy streets above
we are trapped in the iron beast, deprived of all the things we love.
As the doors slide shut there’s not a seat that can be found
a sudden jolt beneath our feet, now nobody makes a sound.
A girl with lush blond hair catches me in the corner of her eye
but when the monster stops, she doesn’t even say goodbye.
I’m afraid I’ve had you fooled, my existence is only inside your head
and I’ll haunt you all both day and night until you’re finally dead.
