A POEM I HAVE WRITTEN FOR irishprematurebabies.com MY FAVORITE CHARITY.
A PREMATURE GIFT

I KEPT YOU IN MY TUMMY,
ALL WARM AND CUDDLED TIGHT.
I THOUGHT THAT I COULD KEEP YOU SAFE,
ALL DAY AND THROUGH THE NIGHT.
I LAY IN BED AND WONDERED,
WHAT MY LITTLE GIFT WOULD BRING.
THINKING OF WHICH LULLABY,
I FIRST WOULD LIKE TO SING.
I FELT SOMETHING UNFAMILIAR.
MY INSTINCT KICKED STRONG.
MY HEART WAS THUMPING BIG-TIME.
I JUST KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG.
YOU WERE IN A HURRY,
NOW YOU WERE ON YOUR WAY.
I REALLY THOUGHT I WOULD LOSE YOU.
YOU WERE NOT DUE NEAR THIS DAY.
AS YOU WERE BORN SO EARLY,
MY FEARS WERE STRONG BUT, TRUE.
BUT, ALL OF THE SCARY FEELINGS PASSED,
AS SOON AS I LOOKED AT YOU.
YOU WERE VERY FRAIL AND TINY,
BUT, YOU FOUGHT AND BATTLED STRONG.
NOW YOU ARE HOME AND THRIVING FAST,
JUST RIGHT WHERE YOU BELONG.
