All Around the Oxbow Lake

verdant vegetation along its banks and sides,
a widened space between four borders
shrinks and slowly
dries. a bend bent
by mistake as
a river took
its course, the
abstruse path
was pried away with
gradual, glacial force. left here to be a
home for rooks and leaves the wind shook loose,
the oxbow lake could be a hook or the bottom of a
noose.
