Tuesday is just another day of the week, but this Tuesday, that all changes.
The human mind works in fantastic ways, it twists and turns creating visions of a world that we live without worry, without fear. We, as humans, are unaware of the capabilities of our inventions; they think, they feel, they even hear. You see, humans are always looking for something to create, to invent, but we are not God, and thus we cannot change the world without consequence. The nuclear bomb is an everlasting threat, a consequence to our foolishness, but the real consequence has yet to pass. In a world full of machines, the greatest consequence of them all is right under our nose, but we are too blind to see it, and thus, unless stopped it shall be the death of us.
Journal Entry 1:
6/27/31
The sun glistened gleefully upon the Earth today, which rudely awakened me to a world full of freedom and possibility. The day was Monday, a fairly average day of the week, which is normally uneventful and proved as much today. I started my day as I normally would, get out of bed, walk to my bathroom where an automated robot would wash me and brush my teeth for me. I would then get another machine to comb my hair. Here I will take a quick side note, I never did trust those machines, especially the ones with their beady eyes and emotionless voices, they seemed like the embodiment of evil itself, but it today’s society, without machine we are nobody. I wouldn’t know how to brush my teeth, as I never had to learn how to, I always had a machine to do it for me. I also never had to wash my own body or had to comb my own hair. Heck, I probably wasn’t even supposed to look like this, as with genetic engineering it was made possible to be able to choose your child’s looks and traits.
Yes, it was the best of times and most defiantly not the worst of times. Anyways, back on track, I would then proceed to get changed into my work clothes, which were picked out by a robot specially designed to pick the best looking outfit in your closet. Following that I would clap to turn off the lights and type in my code to activate my security system, as I headed out the door to work. The day was a particular sunny one, and as I headed into to my car, I dreamt of the possibility of a new age; one where we would take yet another big step in science and create a new race or possibly Hover Cars and teleporters. We already had the technology; we just didn’t know how to work it yet. As my card automatically drove itself to my office I had yet another uneventful and rather bland day at work. The building itself was fantastic, but work was slow and the people were as rude as always, always wanting technological help with their computers and machines, but complaining about us not working fast enough at the same time. Yes, that is how people worked these days, the only open jobs were technological assistance or government positions, all of the other jobs that had once existed had been replaced by machines.
As the work day ended, I drove back to my home and lay down on the bed. I fell into a deep sleep, not to be awakened by anything less than world destruction.
Journal Entry 2:
6/28/31
Tuesday, the day of terror. I awoke to the most unpleasant sound that I have ever heard in my life, the screams of terrified children, men, and woman. Sirens were blasting throughout the city as darkness enveloped the earth. Rain poured down from the clouds outside, while the city itself was experiencing a black out; I jolted out of bed and sprinted towards my door, but was abruptly blocked by none other than my own personal dentist droid.
“You can’t leave without getting your daily cleaning!” The droid cried as it changed its hand into a dentist drill.
The robot moved closer and closer to me, the buzzing noise of the drill was the most frightening sound I have ever heard. It buzzed in all of its glamorous terror, and I was at a loss. I had no previous fighting skill, nor have I had to have any due to the city being protected by its own personal battle droids. I grabbed my baseball bat; yes the still made these in this time, and swung wildly at the droid that was in front of me. The bat knocked the thing’s head off, but it wasn’t enough as it still came at me. I took another swing and this time knocked it down to one knee. I proceeded to rapidly bash the horrid thing until it was nothing more than a pile of screws on my floor.
I kicked open my door and ran outside, and to my surprise the city was in flames. Dead bodies lied everywhere, human and robot alike, while the city’s own battle droids proceeded to wipe out everything in their path. Cars flew as the droids sent waves of energy through the ground and buildings crumbled under the extreme fire. Not even the rain could help to quench such terrible fires, that were how hot it was that day. I hid amongst the rubble, but it proved to avail as one of the many battle droids found me. He aimed is arm at me, which was made to be an Uzi, and proceeded to charge it up, but before he could fire his head fell off his shoulders. Behind the now lifeless hunk of junk stood a tall African American who had wide shoulders and a sword in one hand. He offered a hand, which I gladly accepted.
“Looks like I was lucky to still have the brains to learn how to fight.” The man said with a grin on his face. “My names Khalil, and you?”
“I’m Harris; I was asleep when the machines turned, what in the world happened?” I asked with confusion.
“I don’t know man, they just turned. It started as a whole out invasion of the city, and the government isn’t doing anything about it. They have a whole army on their hands, and they are just leaving us in the dust.” Khalil answered.
“You a soldier?” I asked through gritted teeth, my shoulder was writhing in pain for some odd reason.
“Use to be, I didn’t want to serve anymore when I learned about the experiments they were doing on these machines. It is their fault that they turned, and now look at what’s happened. They machines have feelings, and we sat there on our lazy behinds and experimented on them, we wanted to make fighter droids, droids that could take out whole countries.” Khalil explained.
I just sat their motionless, the city was in rubble and machines were still searching for any survivors, to make things worse, Khalil later told me that almost every city in the U.S. has this happen to them. I realized that we couldn’t just sit here and brood about what has happened, but instead that we needed to take action. I had no idea how, but I knew deep down that we had to defeat the droids.
Khalil and I moved out of our hiding space and proceeded to kill as many machines as possible, but before we could kill any more Khali was picked up off his feet by a huge robot that could only be the Master Droid. The Master Droid was a myth, a fantasy that we told our children to put them to sleep at night, but this time was different. This was as real as you or I. The droid through Khalil across the rubble, knocking him out, and then turned his gaze to me. He exploded through the rubble and picked me up without any trouble.
“Human, you are the reason us droids must eliminate you. You caused us pain and suffering, you caused us to do your bidding. You used us as slaves, and now you shall pay the ultimate price. Your time is over human!” The robot threatened, while pointing his other finger at me.
His finger transformed into a dagger and he thrusted it in me, missing my chest by an inch. It went into my shoulder blade and a deep burning sensation exploded throughout my body. He pulled the dagger out and proceeded to thrust it towards my head, stopping right when the point was at my left eye. He suddenly fell down, as did all of the other robots, dropping me. I rushed over to Khalil to find that he was awake.
“What happened?” He asked, dazed.
“I think we won.” I said, holding my shoulder.
He looked around and saw that all of the robots were laying face first on the ground, motionless.
“I guess we did.” He said, obviously surprised.
“I’ve always hated Tuesday’s” I said, laughing nervously.
EPILOGUE
The year is 2032, and the human race has fallen. We are a shell of our former selves, taking orders from those we once enslaved. You see, the robots stopped due to a signal sent from the king of them all. He told them to forget about killing us, and thus they did. We thought we had won the war, but in reality we lost. I have always been told by my father that technology will be the death of us, and that has proved to be true. We no longer give the orders, but we take them. The robots demanded two hundred years of service, so we can endure the pain that they endured. After those years are done they promised to shut themselves down and leave us alone in peace, but due to the foolishness of the human race my children and grandchildren with be born slaves. Take this as a warning, this partial journal contains the truth about technology, and how the world will turn out if we continue to try to play God. I am warning you; don’t make the same fatal mistakes that we did.
