Blueprint of a New Era

BLUEPRINT OF A NEW ERA

There is no green in this new era.
The grass is gone, replaced with streets parallel to the miles of mistakes that we made,
but that was before. Now, all the lines we create are straight.
They run on and on, side by side,
never touching each other, never offering anything.
There are no curves in this new era.
There are no sweeping gulfs, no gentle hills.
The edge of the continents have been flattened by rulers
and now we live in a box with a tightly closed lid and square holes to breathe from.
There are no tears in this new era.
They scared us too much with their openness, with their honesty,
with their unchecked emotion, with the fact that you can't contain them.
They flow too freely, and so we don't cry in this new era,
not for sadness, not for happiness, not even for boredom.
There is no history in this new era.
We decided to start again, because we don't make mistakes anymore
and we have no need to learn about a past when we didn't exist
We are becoming less and less like people and more like machines.
But that's alright, because now there is no water in this new era
and so rust, our only fear, cannot manifest itself across our shining, perfect bodies.
We give each other the space we need.
The clanking of robotic body against body is too loud on our well-crafted ears
and so we stay away, but we don't mind.
The need for human warmth no longer exists anywhere within us.
We know we won't find it, because there is no love in this bright new era.
We don't need it anymore. It's been replaced by parts that never wear out.
This is a picture of a new life where life no longer exists on its own,
where life comes with batteries and a cord with which to plug it into the wall.
This is a blueprint of a new era
