Wishing

i remember tossing coins into a wishing well
hoping for things
candy, bikes, toys

my mother at my side a couple minutes later
reprimanding me for
wasting my money on something that won't do anything

now it hasn't changed too much
except now i'm tossing

my feelings, my emotions, my thoughts
my likes, my loves, my life
into this bottomless pit that i call

a straight boy i love.
