What armies leave behind.
Legacy of the Liberators

Marvelous machines
of death and destruction
roll past. While in the dust a frightened child
sits alone at the side of the road,
choking on the fumes of "freedom"
and the crumbling cement

where yesterday's home
keeps his crushed family
in eternal embrace. He cries
for tomorrows reality where survival
will be the only motivator
and death the only alternative.

Wondrous machines
disappear into the distance
racing down the desert roads to where,
after debriefing and body count is done,
hot food and warm bed
await their deadly crews.
.
The child sobs in desperation
but does not know the reason why. So,
when someone offers nurture he follows.
And rising as a phoenix from the dust
of the destruction of his life

a terrorist is born.
