The Cowardly Wolf

A brave queer wandered through the forests of the internet,
Not looking for anything or anyone,
When ze was happened upon by a wolf.

The wolf captured zir heart with his sweet words,
Claimed zir as his possession and love
While ze did the same towards him.

All thought them such a cute couple,
The brave queer and the sweet wolf,
An unexpected yet balanced relationship.

Until it was no longer so balanced.

The wolf didn’t like zie talking to zir friends,
Didn’t like the thought that ze may be taken away from him.

Ze also tried to hold zir wolf near,
Wanting to monopolize his time and energy,
Each locking the other in a glass cage.

Ze tried to ignore what was going on,
But zir heart was slowly shattering,
Craving freedom and the love truly deserved.

So ze broke free.

Ze explained that he was a coward who refused to hear,
Too scared of the truths he didn’t want to hear,
While ze needed to express every truth hidden inside,
Wanted so desperately not to feel as though ze was lying.

He called zie a liar and much worse,
Said ze was losing the best thing they ever had,
They’d never find another to love them like he had.

But ze refused to listen to more of his lies.

Ze has moved on from that cowardly wolf,
Needing no one but zieself to be happy and content,
Still not looking for anything or anyone
As ze continues to wander the treacherous woods that are the internet.

And he remains a coward needing others to make it better,
A weak fool who pretends to be perfect and strong,
Still can’t bear to hear the truth if it may hurt,
Curled in his kingdom that decrees “Ignorance is Bliss.”




Written for my ex who believed "Ignorance is Bliss" He never wanted to hear anything that might hurt, so I consider him a coward.
