It's a little story of my childhood.
It was a typical Florida summer. Unreasonable heat, coupled with moisture laden air, made for a miserable day outside. But what was that when compared to the energies of a ten-year-old boy, who loved to throw rocks like a grenadier and swing sticks like a knight. Why should he care if sweat poured out of every pore on his body and grimy dirt rubbed into his skin?
He ran around the apartment complex like a madman, while all his neighbors watched and wondered how can he bear to be outside? The boy climbed towering trees and forded mighty brooks, battled raging armies and slew temperamental dragons. Meanwhile, he just kept sweating and failed to notice the depletion in his strength.
Soon the boy laid on a stretch of thick, luxurious grass and panted. He was woozy and fatigued and his mouth was very dry. He sat up trying to control his nausea and wondered if he was sick. He dizzily wandered to his apartment, practically crawling when he got there. He stumbled to the fridge and grabbed the pitcher filled with grape-flavored Kool-Aid. He decided to bypass getting a cup, grabbed a straw and started sipping up the sugary drink. He noticed an immediate effect.
His body cooled and his head stopped spinning. Instead, he felt revitalized and green. Yes, he always had count on Kool-Aid to make him feel wholesome again, and he always will. Putting the pitcher back in its enshrined cubby, he ran outside to continue the never ending fight against boredom.
