A short story I made for the Daily Flash Fiction Contest |
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! I quickly sat up, hitting my head on the bunk above mine. Wincing, I looked around to realize I was at summer camp. With a sigh, I crawled out of my bed and dressed with everyone else. "Today we are going canoeing" My cabin leader alerted me. Great. There was no point in explaining that I could not swim. Finishing getting ready I walked over to the lake and got in a canoe with one of my cabin mates. We started rowing out into the water. Our boat had a number 25 on the front, my favorite number. We started floating out on the water and I found it was calming. Soon my cabin mate decided it was funny to start trying to rock the boat. Looking at him in a panic, “Stop!” I cried, he paid no attention to me. With a scream, I went under the water. I saw bright blue water and felt the water closing in on me. All the sudden I could no longer breathe. Everything went black. “Hey! Are you okay?” I heard a foggy voice come from behind me. Slowly my eyes fluttered open. I coughed a few times “Yeah I think so.” Looking around I realized I had almost drowned. The first thing I thought of was that I wanted something to drink. Word Count: 227 words |
