Background Noise

The Sun is shining

But the day is dark

I'm part of the group

But I feel so apart

I smile, I laugh

But then I forget

As if it never happened

Maybe it's a trick

Maybe an illusion

Maybe a dream

I can hold a conversation

And then forget everything

And soon the words fade

And I only hear voices

Blurring together

Till it's nothing but noises

The echoes of life

From the girls and the boys

But everything's passing

It's all background noise

The world could have blown

And shattered the skies

And all of my life

Could be nothing but lies

If the silence had killed me
