The Deserted Cottage The deserted cottage hadn’t always been so Over many years, humans had gone to and fro The first to move in were a newly married couple They had planted a young spruce, it was oh so supple After living peacefully there for over thirty years, The woman died one night, leaving her man in tears But an autopsy was performed, the husband arrested For she’d been poisoned drinking wine unprotected He drank none, having bought it just that day Had whiskey instead; neat, not his usual way The wine contained trace amounts of arsenic Enough to give someone quite a kick He’d purchased an insurance policy that covered him and her A million dollar one, that couldn’t be transferred Found guilty, he was sentenced to life without parole, Try as they might, his lawyers found no loophole A couple with two children moved in one year later But kept hearing whispers about ‘meeting their creator’ They moved out quickly, put the cottage up for sale Another couple bought it; they had not heard the tales They lasted three months before the wife called him crying, She’d heard voices in the wall saying, “Someone is dying.” The cottage was for sale again, this time no one bit, It seemed to be a haunted cottage, no one wanted it One day Brad and Barry from Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab Came to the cottage to investigate, see what could be had Using high tech devices to record that ghostly voice Listening to the recording, Brad knew they’d made the right choice The first thing they heard, was “My husband is innocent. He would never hurt me, I find that thought repugnant” Brad was amazed, for the evidence was overwhelming So they listened a little more to the story the voice was telling “The man who killed me, was my lover from the liquor store We were so in love, he wanted me as his forever more And when I refused to go with him, he put arsenic in the wine Wanted to kill my husband, but he had crossed the line Instead he killed the one he loved, and blamed it on poor Nick But the man who belongs in prison, is that bastard Rick.” In an unprecedented move, the prosecutor re-opened the case, Nick ended up being freed while Rick; well, he took Nick’s place Jim Dorrell 11/12/10 |
