Taking chances for love

One day I was walking in the park when I heard footsteps behind me then someone say “CALEB!!!” so I turned around wondering who could have been calling my name, then I seen Rachel my best friend walking up to me, the truth is I have loved Rachel since the first day I seen her with her long black hair but there was nothing I could do about it vampires and humans are not aloud to be together. She finally reached me and told me that she has been looking all over for me, I asked her why and she just said



“I have something I need to tell you, could we sit?”



So we sat on the bench right by the pond. I asked what it was she needed to tell me, she took and deep breathe and said



“I know this is really sudden but I been wanting to tell you this for a long time but never got the courage to so here goes nothing…” she paused and took another deep breathe “I love you Caleb.”



I was shocked, I just looked at her wondering how she could feel that way about a vampire but then I remembered right, she has no idea what I am. I thought now was the time to tell her, better now then holding it inside and letting her suffer the pain of knowing I’m hiding something.



So then I said to her, “I need to tell you something also, it’s not that I don’t feel the same way about you I do but it’s something really important but I can’t tell you here, not in a public place”



she just nodded her head so I grabbed her hand and lead her to my house, I opened the door there was no sign of anyone home which is a good thing because if someone was here and heard what I was about to tell her they would tell the leaders and I would be in serious trouble. I closed the door and let go of her hand wishing I hadn’t the moment I let go, I decided to just come straight out with it and so I did,



“I’m a vampire Rachel” I told her, then she looked shocked and asked why I took this long to tell her so I said to her “it was because the leaders of the vampires have rules and one of them is to not tell anyone outside your family that you are a vampire which I just broke that one, and another is to not fall in love with a human…” I stopped right there afraid of what she was going to do or say, but she just said “Caleb I can care less what you are, but you haven’t broken the falling in love with a human rule, right?” I thought it was weird that she hasn’t ran away or fainted for that matter, she just stood there waiting for my answer staring at me so I answered, “I did break it, I’m in love with you Rachel and it drives me crazy that I had to hide it and that I couldn’t be with you” “so why can’t we be together now, I mean the leaders of the vampires don’t have to find out” she said her voice sounding like she was going to cry,



I grabbed her hands and said to her “we can’t be together I wish we could but we can’t, if the leaders find out they will kill you and me that is why I kept the secret all this time and the reason why I couldn’t tell you that I love you.” She started to cry and I hugged her until she stopped crying.



I forgot that she’s really sensitive, when she stopped crying she looked up at me and said “I’m sorry it’s just it’s going to hurt knowing I can’t be with you” after she said that I couldn’t take it, I kissed her. After that, it all went down hill, my dad walked in and saw us. I pulled away wondering why I couldn’t hear him walking up to the house, he didn’t say a word but he grabbed both of our arms and pulled us outside then into his truck then started driving, I knew what was going to happen next so I decided the speak and I said to my father



“dad I’m sorry I know I broke two of the rules I know but please don’t do this please I’m begging you, at least let her live.” He tuned his head a little giving me one of his looks “Caleb son, you know I can’t let her live, you have a better chance of surviving then she does, it will all be okay once I handle this” after he said that I snapped and started yelling at him “do you realize that if you ‘handle this’ I will die to? Do you really want me to die, if not then don’t do it!!!” but it didn’t work, he’s made up his mind, it was all over.

A half hour passed and we were at the leaders house, I looked at Rachel and seen the look on her face, she was terrified. I wish I could make it all better but how can I? We were both going to die. Us three walked up to the house opened the door and walked in, the head vampire Markus was standing in the room waiting for us, he somehow knew what was going on before we even got there so he was already ready to end both of our lives. There were two other vampires there and when we walked in they grabbed me and Rachel then Markus finally spoke



“It looks like the time has come to end the lives of Caleb a vampire who has broken two laws, to not fall in love with a human and to not tell anyone outside your family the truth the other life is Rachel a human girl who fell in love with a vampire and now has to pay for it.”



The other two vampires pulled me and Rachel to different sides of the room, then all of a sudden Rachel pulled out a stake and stabbed the vampire who had grabbed her, he fell to the ground but one thing that kept running through my mind was ‘where did it come from?’. So then I decided to do something and I used the strength that I had to get the vampire off of me, I went right to Rachel and held her close to me making sure no one would pull her away from me then Markus laughed and said "you may have taken down those two but when it comes to me that just wont work" I looked straight at him and said, "why does it matter so much that I love her and she loves me? As long as she doesn't tell anyone about us vampires why should it matter? I just don't get it" Markus looked like he was thinking about it, I guess he was since he said



"I guess your right” “you agree with me?” I told him shocked “you see I was just like you Caleb, I feel in love with a human many years ago so I know what your going through but the difference is, this young girl seems like she wouldn’t mind being with you, but the girl I fell for didn’t want anything to do with me when she found out, but what are you going to do when she grows old and you stay 17?" I thought about it for a little bit then said "If she wants, I could turn her so we could be together for eternity" then I looked at her and she looked at me and smiled, I smiled back forgetting how beautiful she looks when she smiles. Markus then said, "if you do that, be careful sometimes it could go wrong and you wouldn't want your girlfriend to die would you?" that's when I realized Markus wasn't a bad guy after all he was pretty nice.

    A half hour later we were back at my house, my dad had left to go back to work and he left me and Rachel in the house alone. I asked Rachel if she was sure she wanted to do this when we were in my living room, she said "of course Caleb, I want to be with you no matter what" I then nodded my head and pulled her hair back, and went to bite her neck I felt her flinch a little bit, I wouldn't blame her it must hurt after that I moved away from her neck then wiped her blood from my mouth, she touched where I had bit her and she looked at the blood on her hand, I said sorry but she just smiled I then told her I have to give her some of my blood so she just said okay, so then I bit my wrist so some blood could come out and I put it to her mouth but when I looked at her face I could tell she hated the taste, that would change of course in a few seconds, and it did because her look changed and she started taking in more of my blood, she didn't stop she wanted to keep getting more blood but if she got to much it would hurt her so I pulled my wrist away from her mouth then she wiped her mouth and hugged me, I put my arms around her and didn't let go.

   



    A YEAR LATER:

It's been a year since I turned Rachel into a vampire, everything was perfect. Today was the last day of school, graduation day, everyone in school was excited to leave high school but sad to be leaving there friends and all separating going to different colleges but all I cared about was being with Rachel, today isn't just the day we all graduate it's also the day I'm going to propose to Rachel, I mean we are going to be together forever and when I say forever, I mean forever so why not get married? So it was the big night, everyone was getting ready to go on stage in there caps and gowns waiting to receive there high school diploma, then the principle started calling everyone up by there names and I was the last one to receive mine which was good for what I had to say, I then looked at the principle who nodded his head already knowing what I had to say. So I then went to the microphone and said "I have something important to say..." I paused wondering if I should really do this now but then I also realized it's to late to back down, the principle found Rachel in the crowd of seniors waiting for me to finish what I had to say, he brought her up on the stage next to me so then I continued by getting down on one knee in front of her and saying "Rachel, will you marry me?" she then started crying and somehow managed to say yes, everyone awed and clapped. I then stood up and she kissed me, so I held her close to me never wanting to let go.
