A Midsummer's Daydreaming (As I Walk the Shore) A poem of searching and longing. |
A MIDSUMMER’S DAYDREAMING (AS I WALK THE SHORE) The ceaseless lolling calls to me An eternity of time has passed Since the distant seas I have sailed. Like a life left behind me I can feel the desire welling inside, Pulling at my heart so strongly That my eyes can’t control the tears. The horizon hangs long and low before me, As the sun’s last light touches the sand. Turning the cool shades of tranquility To a glowing crimson fire. Night’s descent has fallen fast, Visions of daytime’s hope flee far away. The last sail has faded from sight. I walk the shore so silently, The cool evening breeze whispers carelessly, Beckoning me, I can hear the music calling. But the music is too sad, The notes too powerful, too exotic for me. Where I walk I know not, when I get there I will know what I need to find. Many wounds have cut me down to my soul, Bleeding me of heart and feeling I cry for sanctuary, afar on an island or shoal, Where I can be alone and at peace, The muse for which I languish but a distant dream, Kept at bay by the foundering of my desires, Covered by untold fathoms of the restless sea. Still, my eyes are drawn to the drifting stars, Renewing each night the need within my soul Causing my eyes to shine like gems Facets of crystal that sparkle and bend the light Illuminating the dark depths and revealing their beauty Exposing the fallacy of belief long held Raising the past back before embittered hearts. Waves softly caress the beach so pale, Grains of sand that wash away Only to drift to some other place Creation chants its own intricate song Its forces dancing in perfect time, complete harmony Man sees but does not comprehend the symmetry, Brazenly marring this grand design. Time advances tirelessly, and with it I must go, All too soon this moment must fly. Still, I dream of sailing the sea, When the future brings color to my dreams. Drifting, faintly over the tide, The music gradually fades to naught, Like the scent of salt in the evening breeze. |
