The colors of fall inspire a sense of belonging. (Form: Free Verse)
The Colors of Fall

Interlaced branches shred the sunlight;
half-naked arms reaching upward;
autumn has come.

Intricate weavings cling high above,
a kaleidoscope of muted hues
in the colors of fall.

The wind picks up a vagrant
touch of red and gold
and I watch it dance across the path.
Remnants of birth ... remnants of life ...
deserted nests.

A dark tincture on the brittle field
among the iridescent leaves -
once a passageway to safety
now a bedroom door
for whatever sleeps below.

Warm yellows and greens have
melted away with the season's change;
embellished autumnal shades
cover the nurturing breast of nature
as it withers, awaiting renewal.

In the quiet isolation I listen.
The wind strums the dry leaves,
a rustling song arises.

This is the planet of my birth;
  this is my home, my earth.

I feel her holding me;
      I feel I belong; I feel...
                                ...home.
