Poetry Piece. Opinions Appreciated before I have to hand into class
Dear Child

What is your opinion on life, dear child?
Once upon a time, I recall
You fighting for the lives of unborn children
But is that your belief?
I have watched you grow
From a precocious preschooler
To a young woman with the promise of a bright future
About to waste it

But why do you make the decisions that you do?
Surely the head on your shoulders carries a brilliant brain.
Do you consider the consequences?
Do you listen to the voices of those around you?
He may be attractive, sweet, what seems like the perfect match
But underneath is so grotesque,
You may not immediately see it.

Do you want to cower in fear
From the one who says he loves you?
Cake makeup over multi-colored splotches
So your friends and family never guess?
Abandon your friends
So you are just a shadow of him?
Make so many sacrifices that
You are no longer yourself?
Dear child, I ask you again-
What is your opinion on life?
Would you spend hours
Scouring the floors, keeping a spotless home
And being less than your “significant” other?

A pig in its pen, awaiting its death
Going off to the slaughter
Never a chance to raise its voice
Yet never suspecting its demise

I would hate to have to stand
Glancing at a grey stone
Your name written upon it
Tears and sobs rising to the heavens.
To have to watch your family sit,
On the long brown courtroom benches
Praying the one who put you in the ground
Get’s crucified for his sins.

Dear child, I ask you
If you believe so much in life
Why risk death?
Happiness lies elsewhere I promise.
You have a bright future
You could be an Austen, or a Jett
Or an O’Keefe
Or perhaps a Palin, or a Clinton
Or maybe pave a new path
Just being yourself
Not bound, and chained
Free, careless, and happy.

You have potential dear child,
Don’t go and waste it.
Be in control of your life
Be wise in your decisions
Choose Life, dear child.
