Daily Flash Challenge. Prompt to include: I hate to admit it, but you were right.
“Oh Maya,  I hate to admit it, but you were right,” the Princess said flopping back onto the four poster bed with a smile lighting up her face.

“Thank you M'Lady,”  Maya replied as she picked up the scarlet robe which her Mistress had let fall to the floor in a heap.

“He looked like a ragamuffin in contrast to all the others,.” the Princess continued.  “If it hadn't been for you I would have sent him packing....and then who would I have been left with?”

Maya thought about the parade of young men who regularly presented themselves at Court  trying  to win the favour of her Mistress. They came from far and wide and  usually all looked the same; immaculate and wealthy.  Except today there was one who stood out from the rest. One who was tall and proud; his long dark hair tied back showing off the finest of features.  But a man of noble birth he was not; he looked like a servant. Maya saw something in his eyes;something interesting and exciting so when her Mistress asked  who she favoured, she surprised her by choosing him.

“I'm sure one of the others would have made you a suitable husband. Some were very handsome.”

“Hmm handsome maybe...but so very dull. I'd have died of boredom  with one of those in my chamber." The Princess shuddered at the thought.

Maya giggled and blushed a little.

The Princess grinned.  She appreciated her servant girl for what she'd done. Her eagle eyes had singled out the brightest and most interesting suitor who'd scrubbed up into one of the finest of men. One who was worthy to be her husband and maybe one day rule the Kingdom by her side.
