Prologue for an untitled story about vampires I'm writing.
Vampires don’t exist. They used to, but the humans wiped them out, like so many other species. As such, they faded into myth, a Hollywood horror.
So goes the cute little bedtime story the humans tell their children to help them sleep at night. The nightmares the claim us to be are no more real than any of the other “monsters” they fill the heads of their young with. So quaint. So ignorant.
Despite all their advances, their conquests, humans die off so quickly, a hundred years or so. Vampires, on the other hand, while certainly not the immortal beings made out by the human media to be, live several hundred years.
         If only they knew.
