Dennell's mother had a chat with her to always tell the truth.
Dennell tramped down the sidewalk. Her mother’s words “Always, always tell the truth.” still rattled around in her mind. She approached a group of her freinds.

“Hi, Dennell,” Misty chimed and waved with only her fingers.

“Hello, Misty,” Dennell responded, “What’s going on?”

The other girls expanded the circle to allow Dennell to join.

“Oh, just about to go to class. “

“What are you guys doing?”

Heather held out her hand. “We’re all looking at my new nails. I had teddy bears put on each finger. Aren’t they awesome?”

“No. We’re twelve years old. They are childish and don’t even match your eyes or your outfit.”

All the girls looked wide-eyed at each other.

“Fine. You don’t have to like them. I think they’re cool. Right girls?”

Several nodded and crossed their arms. The school bell rang.

Dennell piped back, “That’s the truth. You’ll see. Most of these girls just don’t want to hurt your feelings.” She turned toward the school steps and marched off.

Trevor Johnson, stood by the stairs to the double doors. He noticed the commotion as Dennell approached.

“Hey, Dennell. What happened over there?”

“You. You’re nothing but trouble. Half the girls swoon over your perfect hair and the way you laugh. They also like your muscles. I’d like to date you myself, but you seem too stuck up.”

“What?” Trevor’s mouth fell open. His face tinged pink. “How dare you talk like that! I’m a good guy.”

“Ha!”

…………………….

Dennell sat in the principal’s office.

“Mrs. Black. I need to talk to you about your daughter, Dennell. She’s told Mr. Vaughn he’s a smart aleck, Mrs. Tudor that she needs to wash her hair, and Mr. Zimmerman he’s boring.”

Dennell looked up at her mother. “You told me to always tell the truth.”
