Written for my daughter.

A NEW DAY DAWNING

Somewhere in the distance, beyond the Crystal Lake,
Deep within the foothills the secrets can’t forsake
The crying of the child is heard only by the wind;
Her soul has been defiled by crimes she can’t defend.

The moon that rises slowly o’er snow capped mountain tops,
Engulfed by misty fog casts filtered rays across
The Crystal Lake that winds through valleys, dales and hill
To reach the babe that mournfully is crying, crying still.

The mountain trembles slightly as echoes from the cries
Move up the stony cravats, fading in the skies
And reaches to the moon for answers in the night,
Yet they do not come from there, to the child in plight.

She continues on, this time in earnest prayer
To the Highest Power of earth and wind and air;
An angel steps out on a peak to carry pleas to Him
Who knows the child needs the Light that seems so very dim.

He sends His messenger to her with Light to show the way
Out of the gloom and misery in which she cannot stay;
She reaches for the hand outstretched, in faith she will go on
Holding tight upon the hope that yesterday is gone.

Steadily the moon sets down as daylight dawns anew;
She slumbers now in twilight hours as glistening drops of dew
Kiss her hair and wind is softly whisp’ring in her ear,
“Sleep now, my child for this beginning has no place for fear.”
