A uncle recalls to his niece his past. The story of his first love.
My niece was staring at me with her curious eyes. Deep and bright like my little sister's. I still shock myself at how much she resembles her. She tilted her head and put her hand into mine.
"So Uncle Jack, are you going to tell me a little story?"
I smiled and fell back into my chair.
"Oh like I can tell stories. I have as much imagination as your Nan. A hoover for christmas, seriously? I know I said different but come on."
Sophia giggled that sweet innocent giggle she had.
"Tell me about you and Uncle Jaime. My mum said you used to have a thing going on before I was born."
"Well your mother's right but still it's not even remotely interesting, you won't find it interesting in the slightest."
"Oh please Uncle Jack." Sophia begged. She sank deeper into her armchair and balanced on her knees. In mock prayer; she looked at me with them eyes again. I was melting already.
"Right ok. Fine. You've got your own way."
"Like I always do." We both smiled.
In the summer air I started my story which was twenty years old. A lifetime ago and when times were different, including me.

***
I was twenty and the year was two thousand and nine. It was only a matter of months before my twenty first and my plans were everywhere. So your nan decided to meet up with the natural grandad and discuss it. I wasn't exactly looking forward to it. If you saw the way your Nan looks at her ex husband even you would be scared.
We decided to go for a few drinks. I was glad of this arrangement because with a few beers down me I wouldn't feel so akward, plus the atmosphere might have been more relaxed. We went into a pub called The Deer and Hound. It's gone now and its where the new Wine Bar is. Well anyway, I was sat next to the entrance of the pub and clocked a young lad walking through the pub towards the bar. Sophia, he was beautiful. One of most perfect looking man I have every seen. Of course by then I didn't know what a real man was, we all were kids at the time. And obviously he didn't notice me so I went back to sipping my lager and listening to my Dad piss and moan to your Nan about the past.
